The Netherlands will be seeking a convincing victory by multiple goals against host nation Qatar in their Group A finale, as the Dutch target winning the group and thus secure what on paper should be a more favorable matchup in the Round of 16.
The Oranje are not yet mathematically qualified for the knockouts, but going into the final match they sit joint top of the group with Ecuador, ahead on the disciplinary points tiebreaker (fewest cards). The Group A winner would likely dodge a date with England in the Round of 16, instead landing the second-place team (USA, Iran or Wales barring any surprises).
No. 50-ranked Qatar, who are already eliminated after losing both matches thus far, are a mismatch against the No. 8-ranked Dutch team which is currently on a 17-match unbeaten streak. But Louis Van Gaal’s squad has not blown anyone away with their performances against Senegal and Ecuador, benefiting from timely goals, including two from breakout star Cody Gakpo.
If the Netherlands beat Qatar, they would finish top of Group A provided Ecuador also fails to beat Senegal. But if the South American side also wins, they would finish level on points and the group tiebreakers come into play.

Netherlands vs. Qatar lineups, team news
According to the Dutch press, midfielder Marten de Roon is expected to get a shot at partnering with Frenkie de Jong in midfield in lieu of his Atalanta teammate Teun Koopmeiners. In addition, after slowly increasing the load for Memphis Depay, he could get his first start ahead of Steven Bergwijn.
Netherlands (3-4-3, right to left): 23-Andries Noppert (GK) — 2-Jurrien Timber, 4-Virgil Van Dijk, 5-Nathan Ake — 22-Denzel Dumfries, 15-Marten de Roon, 21-Frenkie De Jong, 17-Daley Blind — 14-Davy Klaassen — 8-Cody Gakpo, 10-Memphis Depay
Qatar manager Felix Sanchez made three changes from the brutal opening match to the second contest against Senegal and the team had an improved performance despite losing and suffering elimination. There is little reason to believe there should be much tweaking done to that most recent lineup.
Qatar (5-3-2, right to left): 22-Meshaal Barsham (GK) — 2-Pedro Miguel, 17-Ismail Mohammad, 16-Boualem Khoukhi, 3-Abdelkarim Hassan, 14-Homam Ahmed — 10-Hassan Al-Haydos 12-Karim Boudiaf, 23-Assim Madibo — 19-Almoez Ali, 11-Akram Afif
