NHL Stanley Cup playoff picture 2022: Matchups, magic numbers, draft order

By | April 12, 2022

The home stretch of the NHL regular season is here. With less than three weeks remaining before the playoffs, clubs are making their final pushes to reach the postseason.

A number of teams have already clinched spots and others already know they won’t get a shot at the Stanley Cup this season. However, these final couple of weeks are going to be filled with drama as teams fight for a spot in the postseason, as well as a prime first-round matchup.

The eight teams in the Eastern Conference are just about set, but both the Atlantic and Metropolitan divisions are still up for grabs.

Out West, the only sure thing is that the Avalanche are in the playoffs, and likely will win the Central Division and own the No. 1 seed. The Flames are in position to win the Pacific, but after that it’s a bloodbath for the remaining six spots.

Here is everything you need to know about the NHL playoff picture entering the final weeks of the 2021-22 regular season.

With the NHL having a lottery system to determine the top two picks, the race is on to grab the best odds. It’s not a guarantee that team No. 32 gets the top spot, but it will get the highest chance at it.
