Defending champion Novak Djokovic started off his US Open campaign with a dominant 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 win over Radu Albot on Monday night at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
This was the Serb’s 89th win at the hard-court major, placing him second only to Jimmy Connors for most wins at the event in men’s singles.
The 37-year-old is chasing a record 25th Grand Slam title in New York. Though he had a modest Grand Slam season, Djokovic proved he’s not going away any time soon by winning gold at the Paris Olympics.
Here is everything you need to know about Novak Djokovic’s appearance at the US Open, including the latest results from the tournament.
When is Novak Djokovic’s next match at US Open 2024?
Djokovic dispelled any injury concerns, which had seen him cut a practice session short, by romping to a straight sets win over Albot.
He next takes on fellow Serb Laslo Djere in the second round. Djere scored a someback five-set win over Jan-Lennard Struff on Monday.
Djokovic leads the head-to-head against Djere 2-0. The two met at the US Open last year as well, when Djokovic overcame a two-set deficit to beat his countryman in the third round.
