Nuggets vs. Heat live score, updates, highlights from Game 5 of NBA Finals

By | June 12, 2023

With a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals, the Nuggets are on the doorstep of history.

After taking Games 3 and 4 in Miami, Denver is now one win away from the first-ever NBA title in franchise history. Making the occasion even more special is that the Nuggets have an opportunity to win a championship in front of their home fans at Ball Arena.

While Nikola Jokic and his teammates are 48 minutes away from immortality, Jimmy Butler and the Heat have made a habit of doing the unexpected throughout these playoffs. For Denver, the closeout win will likely be the hardest to get.

The Sporting News is tracking live scoring updates and highlights from Game 5 of Nuggets vs. Heat. Follow along with all of the action right here.

End of First Quarter: Heat 24, Nuggets 22

9:07 p.m. — Miami takes a two-point lead into the second frame.

Bam Adebayo (14) and Max Strus (8) have combined to score 22 of Miami’s 24 points, their combined total matching the total points from Denver on the night.

For the Nuggets, Michael Porter Jr. leads the way with seven points and seven rebounds in the first quarter of action, making his presence felt as both a scorer and rebounder.

9 p.m. — The Heat respond.

Behind 11 first-quarter points from Bam Adebayo, Miami is back in the lead. The Heat lead 21-18 with 2:14 left in the first. Adebayo’s 11 points lead all scorers while Max Strus isn’t far behind with eight points in the game.

Nikola Jokic, who has three points, three rebounds and two assists, has picked up his second foul and will sit in favor of DeAndre Jordan.

8:51 p.m. — And here come the Nuggets.

After Jimmy Butler missed both of his free throws, the Nuggets scored six more unanswered, making it a 12-0 run since the Heat got out to a quick 5-0 lead.

Denver leads 12-5 with 5:57 remaining in the first. Timeout Miami.

The Heat are now shooting an ice-cold 2-for-14 (14.3 percent) from the field.

8:45 p.m. — We’ve reached our first break in the action, and Denver leads 6-5. 6:58 remains in the opening frame.

It’s been a sloppy start for the Nuggets, who have already committed four turnovers in just over five minutes. It’s a cold start as Miami (2-for-12) and Denver (3-for-7) are shooting a combined 5-for-19 from the field.

Jimmy Butler, who is scoreless so far, will step to the line after the break.

8:39 p.m. — Bam Adebayo gets Miami on the board first with a steal and dunk in transition.

Game 5 is underway.
