Oklahoma fans boo Spencer Rattler after interception vs. West Virginia, ask for backup QB

Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler looked pedestrian through the first half of the No. 4 Sooners’ home game vs. West Virginia on Saturday, including an early interception.

OU fans wasted no time in letting the projected first-round NFL Draft pick have it after that play. They booed and asked that Rattler be replaced by freshman backup Caleb Williams.

The interception was Rattler’s third in four games this season.

Doubts about Rattler have crept in after he threw two interceptions in a 40-35 win over Tulane and mustered just 73 yards in the first half against West Virginia on 7-of-11 passing.

Rattler was a preseason Heisman Trophy favorite, and although the season is still young, it’s never a good sign when you lose the support of your fan base and there are calls for your backup to replace you.

Williams was rated as a five-star quarterback by major recruiting services and came to Norman as the No. 1-ranked quarterback in his class.

He had yet to enter Saturday’s game as of the third quarter (the Sooners and Mountaineers were tied 10-10), but if Rattler continues to struggle, fans may get their way.
