Olympics track and field live results, updates, highlights from Day 8 events at 2024 Paris Games

By | August 9, 2024

Day 8 of the Olympics’ slate of track and field events sees a motley crew of athletic’s biggest stars attempt to add to already glimmering treasure chests.

American sprinting star Sha’Carri Richardson is among the most popular figures set to take part in the festivities, seeking her first-ever Olympic gold medal with USA’s 4x100m relay team. Richardson strung together an impressive outing across 100 meters earlier in the tournament. However, her hopes for gold crumbled after getting out of the blocks a little too slow.

Things should be easier for Richardson this time around. The 100m silver medalist won’t be tasked with starting Friday’s race, but rather ending it: she sits in the anchor position on USA’s team, nabbing the exchange from the Americans’ third-leg runner, Gabby Thomas.

Richardson and Thomas are as big as they get in world track and field. And yet, they make up just a portion of the dignitaries slated to trot into the Stade de France on Friday evening. Joining them are Fred Kerley, Kenny Bednarek, Sifan Hassan, Raven Saunders, Grant Holloway, and Marileidy Paulino, all of whom have captured Olympic jewelry in the past.

One athlete whose presence will sorely be missed is American star Noah Lyles, whose Olympics appear to have come to a premature end due to COVID-19. The Americans are still expected to finish on the podium in the 4x100m, with Bednarek, Kerley, Christian Coleman, and one of Courtney Lindsey or Kyree King among the strongest performers across 100 meters.

The Sporting News is tracking live updates from Sunday’s events at the Stade de France. Follow for highlights and results as some of the world’s best athletes compete for medals under the glistening Paris moonlight.
