Southern Indiana claimed its first regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, which begins Wednesday.
The Screaming Eagles finished the regular season 17-1 as a second-year member of the conference, transitioning from NCAA Division II status. Southern Indiana has a double bye to Friday’s semifinals.
At the Division II level, the Screaming Eagles earned six Great Lakes Valley Conference championships and 12 NCAA Tournament berths.
Should Southern Indiana win the Ohio Valley tournament title, the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament will be awarded to the tournament runner-up because the Screaming Eagles are still transitioning to the Division I level.
Little Rock finished in a tie with UT Martin and Eastern Illinois but earned the No. 2 seed because of tiebreakers, securing a double bye to the semifinals.
Little Rock is one of the top two seeds in each of its two-year existence in the conference. Last year, the Trojans entered as the No. 1 seed but fell to Tennessee Tech in the championship game, 54-46.
UT Martin will be the No. 3 seed and earned a single bye to the quarterfinals beginning Thursday. The Skyhawks have clinched a spot in the Ohio Valley tournament for 15th consecutive season.
Eastern Illinois is the No. 4 seed and is looking to reach the championship game for the first time since 2010 and their first Ohio Valley tournament title.
This year marks the seventh-consecutive year the event has been held at the Ford Center, which opened in 2011 and is located in Evansville’s downtown district. The event is scheduled to be held in Evansville through 2026.
