Packers’ $84 million star projected to land with hated NFC rival in shocking trade scenario

By | June 1, 2025

The Green Bay Packers find themselves in a similar position to several other teams this offseason, particularly regarding veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander. Alexander and the Packers have been working toward a restructured contract that both sides can agree on.

“On the contract front, the Packers could want a revised deal that allows Alexander — who has missed at least 10 games in three of the last four seasons — to earn his full salary if he’s healthy and available in 2025 but protects the team in case the injuries continue,” Packers Wire’s Zach Kruse wrote.

While the Packers have yet to finalize a new deal with the veteran, there’s a positive sign: Alexander remains in communication with the team.

“Alexander has not reported to the Packers’ voluntary workouts, which would raise red flags over his status with the team. While speculation has run wild, passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley sang a different tune, telling ESPN’s Rob Demovsky that he’s been in contact with Alexander every day while skipping the offseason workouts,” Dairyland Express’ Chris Schad wrote.

Earlier this week, the Packers reportedly offered Alexander a restructured deal, but no agreement has been reached so far.

If no deal is made, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin believes a trade — potentially even to a division rival — could be on the table.

“All offseason, the Green Bay Packers have publicly anticipated a breakup with Alexander, who’s simultaneously been one of the NFL’s best — and most injured — cover men. Both sides hinted at a split in free agency, either via trade or release. Now the Packers apparently have a new contract offer on the table, but if the Pro Bowler doesn’t bite at a pay cut, Green Bay could save $17 million by cutting or trading the cornerback after June 1. That’s an increase of $9.5 million from prior to June 1. Potential landing spot: Vikings,” Benjamin wrote.

A trade with the Vikings might be hard to imagine given the intense rivalry, but for the right price, anything is possible. While Alexander could significantly benefit Minnesota’s secondary, the Packers might see value in a return package that suits their needs.
