Packers predicted to part ways with 1st round pick and draft ECU star

The Green Bay Packers are 11-4 and have clinched a playoff spot. Despite their improvements on defense, their secondary, specifically corners, could use some more help.

While listing Packers who would not be back in 2025, FanSided’s Rucker Haringey predicted the team would part ways with 2021 first-round pick Eric Stokes and draft Shavon Revel to replace him.

“Green Bay spent a first-round pick on Stokes in 2021 with the hope that he would develop into their No. 1 cornerback. He’s held down a starting position for the team this season but his play is nowhere near that of a top draft pick. Stokes’ PFF overall grade of 61.5 on the season ranks 110th out of 217 corners,” wrote Haringey. “Stokes will be looking for a free agency deal that builds on his salary as a former first-round pick. The Packers should not engage in those sorts of discussions with his representatives. He is not good enough to be a starter on the outside for a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.”

Haringey named Shavon Revel of East Carolina State to replace him. Revel has missed most of his senior season in 2024 with an ACL injury. He should be ready to play as a rookie in the NFL. In 2023, he was named Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference. He has played in 24 games at ECU and has 71 tackles to go with his three interceptions.

“When healthy, Revel has all of the athletic tools required to be a No. 1 cover corner. He has elite speed that allows him to track elite receivers on deep balls. What sets him apart from some other defensive backs in his draft class is that he also has the power to jam opponents at the line of scrimmage,” wrote Haringey. “Green Bay might need to wait a while to get the best out of Revel but his upside is worth that tradeoff. The former ECU star would give their cornerback room a much-needed infusion of talent.”
