Panthers vs. Oilers live score: Updated Game 3 results, highlights from 2024 Stanley Cup Final

By | June 13, 2024

The Stanley Cup Final shifts to Edmonton with Florida in full control.

The Panthers took care of business at home to open the 2024 championship series. After Sergei Bobrovsky shut out the Oilers in Game 1, Florida followed it up with a 4-1 victory in Game 2 thanks to a pair of goals by Evan Rodrigues.

Florida’s defense and goaltending have been better than advertised. Edmonton’s high-flying offense of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Co. have been held to just one goal through two games in the Stanley Cup Final. McDavid has just one assist while Draisaitl is without a point, and the Oilers’ potent power play has gone lifeless against the Panthers’ penalty kill.

History is on the Panthers’ side. Teams that go up 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final have gone on to win 91 percent of the time. Meanwhile, the Oilers are aiming to become the first team since the 2011 Bruins to come back from down two games to win the title.

The biggest storyline heading into Game 3 is the status of Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov. The Florida center left Game 2 in the third period after taking a high hit from Draisaitl. He traveled with the team to Edmonton, but it’s not 100 percent clear if he will skate on Thursday night.

(All times Eastern)

End of first period: Panthers 1, Oilers 0

9:01 p.m.: GOAL! Reinhart tips in the first goal of the game off Forsling’s pass. Panthers lead 1-0 with a minute to play in the period. Still 4-on-4.

8:59 p.m.: Bobrovsky makes yet another great save, swallowing Ceci’s shot. Game is going to 4-on-4 after a post-whistle scrum.

8:56 p.m.: Bobrovsky is just a brick wall. McDavid still can’t find the net and another power play is wasted.

8:52 p.m.: Oilers back on the power play with 5:14 to play in the first period. Slashing, two minutes.

8:51 p.m.: Shots have been much more even tonight compared to Game 2. Oilers had the early Game 2 lead but trailed on shots, which caught up to them late.

8:45 p.m.: McDavid is looking for his shot much more often tonight, but Panthers kill the penalty. They’ve killed the last 40 of 42 chances.

8:44 p.m.: Wow, Bobrovsky makes a nice save on the Draisaitl one-timer.

8:41 p.m.: Oilers are heading to the power play via a delay of game penalty. Great chance for Edmonton.

8:34 p.m.: Take a breather, Florida fans. Connor Brown nearly scores a short-handed goal, but Bobrovsky saves another off his blocker. Panthers didn’t have a shot on that advantage.

8:32 p.m.: First penalty of the night for Edmonton on the interference call. Two-minute advantage for Panthers.

8:30 p.m.: Florida is already giving Edmonton trouble just four minutes in. Panthers lead 5-2 on shots.

8:25 p.m.: McDavid gets an early shot on goal, directly in front of Bobrovsky. Easy save.
