Patriots preparing for Christian Barmore to miss the whole season

By | September 5, 2024

While the New England Patriots don’t exactly have the most talented roster on paper entering the 2024 season, they suffered a huge loss at the beginning of training camp when defensive lineman Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots.

Barmore had just received a massive extension after three strong seasons to start his career in New England, but he’ll have to sit out for a while.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Patriots are preparing for Barmore to miss the whole season, as they don’t want to rush his recovery. They’ll gladly accept him back when he’s good to go, but they won’t be rushing him.

When Barmore was originally diagnosed, it was reported that there was no timetable for his return, and those in New England shouldn’t be shocked at this possibility with center David Andrews missing a full season in 2019 due to blood clots.

The 25-year-old has been effective in his 44 career games, recording 133 tackles (18 for a loss), 32 quarterback hits, 12.5 sacks, nine passes defensed and a forced fumble.

If/when he does return to the field, he’ll be one of the Patriots’ best defensive players again.

For now, however, New England will have to rely on Davon Godchaux, Daniel Ekuale, Jeremiah Pharms Jr. and Eric Johnson to shoulder the load in the middle of the defensive line.
