
High school football is here in Alabama, starting Thursday night in Montgomery.
Prattville takes on Pike Road on the first night of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Kickoff Classic, taking place at the Cramton Bowl. Friday, the second night of the Kickoff Classic, Fyffe faces Maplesville.

FOURTH QUARTER
– TOUCHDOWN PIKE ROAD. Holy mackerel, Jordan Holmes IS HAVING A NIGHT. On a third-and-9 from the 30, Holmes catches a short pass near the 20, gets the first down and then some, making several moves before reaching the end zone. Patriots add the PAT. Holmes now with nine catches for 141 yards and three interceptions along with two total TDs. (Pike Road, 21-14 | 1:16, 4th)

– Wow, what a game by Jordan Holmes and what a catch. Holmes catches a pass despite being blanketed by two defenders on third-and-long, and Pike Road has a first down at the Prattville 31 close to two minutes.
– Pike Road, facing a third down near midfield, calls its first time out with 2:31 remaining.
– Jordan Holmes with a couple of receptions, and Pike Road gets it past midfield. Three minutes left.
– Pike Road gets a third-down sack of its own, courtesy of Braylon Outlaw, and Prattville has to punt it away. Patriots take over with more than four minutes left.
– Prattville with all of the momentum. Elijah Brown, a defensive lineman looked at by several Division I schools, gets a sack on third down, and Pike Road has to punt it away. Lions get great field position inside the Patriot 45 with nearly six minutes left.
– TOUCHDOWN PRATTVILLE. We are now tied up, as Prattville QB J.J. Williams executes a masterful drive. After getting a third-down scramble down to the 3 and a first-and-goal, Williams runs a keeper into the end zone. The PAT then squares things up. (14-14 | 7:56, 4th)
– A long pass play gets Prattville in the red zone. Lions in position to either tie or take the lead with nine minutes to go.
– Pike Road goes for it, but a pass falls incomplete. Prattville holds and takes over five seconds into the fourth.
THIRD QUARTER
– Pike Road faces a fourth-and-3 at the Prattville 30. The Patriots will let the clock run out and use the quarter change to discuss what they want to do.
– Pike Road picks up a couple of first downs and advances to near midfield. The Patriots are now in Prattville territory following a pass interference penalty.
– Prattville reaches into Pike Road territory, but the Lions go backwards and have to punt. Patriots regain possession in the final minutes of the third.
– Prattville forces Pike Road to punt and the Lions have the ball back at the midway point of the third.
– INTERCEPTION PIKE ROAD. And once again, it’s Jordan Holmes, who now has a hat trick on picks for the Patriots.
– TOUCHDOWN PRATTVILLE. We have a ballgame now. Lions block a punt and that sets up a TD pass from JJ Williams early in the second half. (Pike Road, 14-7 | 10:32, 3rd)
HALFTIME
– Late drive for Prattville stalls, and the Lions miss a field goal. Pike Road takes a knee to go into the half up by two touchdowns.
SECOND QUARTER
– Prattville putting together another drive, with QB J.J. Williams making plays with both his arm and his feet. Lions inside the Pike Road 30 late in the first half.
– TOUCHDOWN PIKE ROAD. The interception sets up a 10-play, 80-yard drive, ending with a 26-yard pass from Gunner Gibbs to Elias Holttzclaw. Gibbs already 10-of-14 passing for 96 yards for the Patriots. (Pike Road, 14-0 | 8:00, 2nd)
– INTERCEPTION PIKE ROAD. A huge night already for Pike Road DB Jordan Holmes, who gets his second interception, this time picking off a pass in the end zone to stop Prattville’s scoring threat.
– Prattville inside the Pike Road 20 to start the second quarter.
FIRST QUARTER
– Prattville gets another punt inside the 20. Lions then force a punt of their own, but it’s a short one for Pike Road, and Prattville begins its next series just past midfield in Patriot territory in the closing minutes of the opening period.
– PICK-SIX PIKE ROAD. Patriots strike first on a defensive TD, as Jordan Holmes jumps the route on a screen pass and dashes 50 yards to the house. PAT is good. (Pike Road, 7-0 | 5:20, 1st)
– Pike Road gets out to near midfield before having to punt it away on its first series. Both teams punt on its respective initial possession.
– Three-and-out for Prattville on the opening series, and the Lions will have to punt it away. But they get a great kick off, and it lands at the Pike Road 16. Prattville indeed flips the field.
– Finally, we are under way as Pike Road kicks things off to Prattville.

ABOUT PRATTVILLE
The Lions will be making their seventh appearance in the AHSAA Kickoff Classic, the most of anyone in the state. They were 3-3 in previous Kickoff Classic games.
Prattville is under a new head coach, Bobby Carr, who has won 256 career games. He’s taking over a Lions’ squad that went 5-5 in ’24 and seeking their first postseason appearance since 2021.

Last season, the Patriots finished 10-4 and reached the Class 6A semifinals. In this decade, they’ve gone a combined 53-13, including a 5A state title in 2021.
