By | February 21, 2024

Arsenal and Porto face off in Portugal for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.

The Gunners are eager to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2010 and have been in sensational form in recent games, defeating Liverpool in a potentially key Premier League clash and scoring 11 goals across consecutive away wins over West Ham and Burnley.

Mikel Arteta’s squad take on Sergio Conceicao’s Porto, who are third in the Liga Portugal, trailing league leaders Benfica and Sporting CP by seven points.

Arteta acknowledges Arsenal’s lack of Champions League experience among the squad but believes in his players’ talent when it comes to their chances of making a real push for the trophy this season.

The Sporting News will be following the Porto vs. Arsenal match live, providing score updates, commentary, and highlights as they happen.

56th minute: Rice’s corner is deep and finds its way to Trossard at the back post. He smashes it on the volley but again can’t test Costa.

53rd minute: It’s been more of the same in the second half so far as Arsenal continue to knock the ball about nicely without threatening too much.

46th minute: We’re back underway!

HT: Arsenal have dominated but Porto have had the best opportunity of the first half. The Gunners will want to better use their possession in the next 45.

45th minute: A deep corner is targeting Havertz at the back post and he rises highest but can’t test Costa.

37th minute: Nico Gonzalez tries his luck from distance but it’s well wide.

30th minute: Arsenal are still looking comfortable in possession and are so far reluctant to commit too many players going forward.

22nd minute: Oh my word! How have Porto not taken the lead? Galeno strikes the post and has another go with the rebound but sends it inches wide. That was a wonderful opportunity.

19th minute: Costa punches Rice’s free-kick clear but the referee spotted an infringement in the box and Arsenal waste a good chance.

10th minute: Arsenal have enjoyed 80% possession to start the match but are yet to create a clear-cut chance.

1 hour to kickoff: Team news is in! No Taremi for the hosts. Arteta selects a very attacking side.
