The final promotion spot in next year’s Premier League competition will be determined via the 2023 EFL Championship playoffs, a yearly event to select the third promoted side following the top two finishers in the table.
With Burnley and Sheffield United already securing a place in the 2023/24 English top flight, a third team will join them in dramatic fashion. The four participants have been determined, and will duke it out in a knockout bracket.
Luton Town, Middlesbrough, Coventry City, and Sunderland all secured a place in the playoffs, with the latter two dramatically bagging their spot on the final day of the season. A seeded, two-legged semifinal will determine the finalists, with 90 minutes at the famed Wembley Stadium played to select a final promoted side.
With the lucrative windfall of Premier League promotion, teams are desperate to clinch this final, coveted place in the top division.

2023 EFL Championship playoff promotion odds
Interestingly, the heavy favourites to be promoted via the Championship playoff are Middlesbrough, who did not finish as the highest ranked of the four teams in the table.
Luton Town, who finished third in the regular season table, are no longer favourites after losing to Sunderland in the first leg of their semifinal matchup. Sunderland, who finished sixth to claim the final playoff spot, have seen their odds to be promoted jump after their victory.
Coventry City, who were fifth in the Championship table and played to a scoreless draw with Middlesbrough in the first leg of their semifinal, are longshots to go up.
