The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to trade Alec Bohm and build a roster to reach the World Series. They could move Bohm for an All-Star to bolster their bullpen.
Bohm is “on the trade block,” according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, and could be dealt to add a superstar. The Athletic’s Jim Bowden broke down this trade proposal that sends Bohm to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Devin Williams:
- Phillies receive: right-handed pitcher Devin Williams
- Brewers receive: third baseman Alec Bohm and a prospect
“The Phillies need an elite, right-handed, high-leverage closer and I think this deal makes a lot of sense for them, especially if they could turn around and sign either Alex Bregman or Willy Adames to replace Bohm at the hot corner,” wrote Bowden.
Williams is a two-time All-Star and two-time Trevor Hoffman Reliever of the Year. Spotrac projects him to sign a five-year, $70 million deal when he hits free agency after this season. The Brewers generally don’t hand out contracts like that. They also have a track record of trading star pitchers before they hit free agency. Just last season they traded Corbin Burnes. A couple of seasons ago they moved Josh Hader in a shocker.
“I also like this trade from the Brewers’ perspective because Bohm would solve third base and replace Adames in their lineup, allowing Ortiz to play shortstop with Brice Turang remaining at second,” wrote Bowden.
Bohm had a breakout year with the Phillies. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. He hit 15 home runs and had a .280 batting average.
