Puka Nacua injury updates after Rams star WR reinjures knee in Week 1

By | September 9, 2024

The Los Angeles Rams didn’t have much to say about star wide receiver Puka Nacua’s injury in the wake of the devastating overtime loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday night.

Nacua suffered a knee injury and initially carried a “questionable” tag before returning to the game, then leaving again.

Footage caught Nacua needing a cart to leave the field with trainers.

Rams head coach Sean McVay didn’t offer any updates after the game. According to Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper, he also wouldn’t say whether this was a re-aggravation of the knee injury Nacua suffered back on August 5 during a joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the next morning that it is indeed the same knee and Nacua will undergo tests on Monday.

That last knee injury cost Nacua weeks of practice time before he got in gear over the past week for the opener.

Now 0-1, the Rams can’t afford to miss Nacua for an extended period of time with four consecutive NFC games on the slate, starting with a trip to Arizona to play the Cardinals in Week 2. The team boasts an early, Week 6 bye, too, so early injuries would be a shame.

Nacua broke records last year on 105 catches for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns. Demarcus Robinson and others would need to step up behind Cooper Kupp should he need to miss time.
