Rangers vs Celtic live score, result, stats, lineups from as Matondo pegs back champion in Old Firm classic

By | April 7, 2024

Rangers twice came from behind to claim a thrilling 3-3 draw against Celtic in an Old Firm thriller at Ibrox, keeping the destiny of the Scottish Premiership title in their hands.

Daizen Maeda was rewarded for his industry with a touch of fortune when he caught the Rangers defence napping inside the first minute, with Matt O’Riley adding a deserved second from the penalty spot for the visitors.

Rodgers’ men headed into the match with a one-point lead over their bitter rivals at the top of the table, having played a game more, meaning only a win could give Celtic control of the title race.

Philippe Clement’s Rangers emerged after a chastening opening period with renewed vigour and James Tavernier, who was culpable for the Celtic opener, reduced the arrears from the penalty spot.

That came after a VAR review and the video official was kept busy after a Rangers equaliser from Cyriel Dessers was ruled out on account of a Tom Lawrence foul on Tomoki Iwata earlier in the move.

Nevertheless, the whole complexion of the contest had changed and Rangers’ pressure finally told when substitute Abdallah Sima levelled four minutes from time. Remarkably, there was further drama to come courtesy of two more substitutes. Adam Idah thought he’s wrestled control of the title race for Celtic once more before Rabbi Matondo sent Ibrox into raptures in added time.
