Red Sox bullpen blows another game, losing from a walk-off by Astros 5-4

By | August 19, 2024

The Boston Red Sox lose 5-4 to the Astros after a walk-off solo home run by Yainer Diaz. This is the most recent time the Sox bullpen has blown the game, and a great Tanner Houck start.

This game looked great at the beginning, when outfielder Jarren Duran hit a first pitch home run to start the game. The Red Sox scored a second time in the first inning, making the game 2-0.

Houck went six innings, and only gave up two runs. When the Astros switched from their starting pitcher, the Sox pinch hit with Masataka Yoshida who hit a two-run homer in his first appearance.

This is where things fell apart. The Red Sox committed a huge error in the sixth, allowing a runner to score and making the game 4-3. Then in the eighth, Lucas Sims came in, who hasn’t been doing great for the Sox, and let up another run.

Finally in the ninth, closer Kenley Jansen struck out the Astros best hitter, Yordan Alvarez, and then gave up a homer to end the game to the next batter, Yainer Diaz.

The Sox will face the Astros for the second time in the series tomorrow at 8:10pm EST.
