Red Sox listed as possible fit for Marlins former Cy Young winner

The Boston Red Sox were very busy this past offseason, signing Alex Bregman, Patrick Sandoval, Aroldis Chapman and Walker Buehler while also trading for Garrett Crochet.

The team looks to be a threat to win the American League East, especially with the New York Yankees reeling from recent injuries. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t need some help at various points this year.

The Red Sox have four starters who will start the season on the injured list, those being Sandoval, Lucas Giolito, Kutter Crawford and Brayan Bello. It may not be a bad idea to make a trade or two to boost the starting staff.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer listed Boston as a possible fit for Miami Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara.

“The Red Sox have already run into injury turbulence, with Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford and Lucas Giolito expected to begin the season on the IL. Meanwhile, newcomers Crochet and Buehler are not known for durability,” Rymer wrote.

“This is just one reason to keep an eye on Boston as a potential player for Alcantara. The other is that the team has more young bats than it has space for, something the Marlins would probably be all too happy to help with.”

Alcantara himself is coming back from an injury. He missed all of 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. But the Marlins have dismantled their 2023 playoff team, and Alcantara might be one of the first players traded away in what figures to be a long summer in Miami.

The proposal has the Red Sox sending Gold Glove outfielder Wilyer Abreu and No.4 prospect, shortstop Franklin Arias to Miami in exchange for Alcantara.

This would give the Red Sox a truly scary rotation. Alcantara and Buehler are proven commodities, and Crochet is a rising star. Plus, Giolito’s return would further help Boston’s depth.

It might be wise for Boston to go out and make a blockbuster move to bolster their rotation before the season starts. We’ll see what they decide to do.
