On Thursday, the Boston Red Sox were defeated by the Cleveland Guardians 5-4 at Fenway Park, and after the game, they made a roster move swapping pitchers.
MLB.com’s Ian Browne reported that Boston promoted lefty reliever Cam Booser from Triple-A Worcester, and Beyond the Monster’s Andrew Parker reported that the corresponding move was that Joe Jacques, who Boston brought up on Wednesday, was optioned back to Triple-A.
Jacques appeared in Thursday’s loss to Cleveland, allowing three hits and one earned run in 1 2/3 innings.
Booser, 31, was signed by the Minnesota Twins back in 2013 as an undrafted free agent. Despite being in and out of professional baseball over the last 12 years, he has yet to make his MLB debut.
In 52 appearances for Worcester over the last two seasons, Booser posted a 5.60 ERA and a 1.275 WHIP while striking out 11.3 per nine innings.
RedSox manager Alex Cora hyped Booster up earlier in the year.
“He’s been great, man,” Cora said back in March. “He throws 97, 98. Sometimes he hits 99. And he’s been able to land the offspeed pitches for strikes. He’s been really good. He had a great second half last year. Talking to (Worcester manager) Chad Tracy, something clicked there that got him in the strike zone. And he’s been doing the same thing here in spring training.”
