Russell Wilson injury update: Seahawks QB out 4-8 weeks after finger surgery, report says

By | October 8, 2021

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson reportedly will be sidelined at least a month, and maybe two, after surgery Friday to repair a torn tendon on the middle finger of his throwing hand.

Wilson suffered the injury during Thursday night’s 26-17 loss to the Rams. He underwent the procedure Friday morning after flying to Los Angeles to visit a specialist, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that screws were inserted to stabilize the finger.

According to Fowler’s report, Wilson’s timetable for a return was four to eight weeks. Rapoport put the timeline at roughly six weeks.

Wilson was hurt in the third quarter when his hand slammed into Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald’s arm. The veteran quarterback played one snap before he exited to the sideline for evaluation by trainers. He couldn’t finish a game for the first time in his NFL career. Now, Wilson will miss his first games after 10 years and 149 consecutive starts, all with the Seattle franchise.

Through the first three quarters of the “Thursday Night Football” matchup, Wilson completed 11 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing his first interception of the season. Backup quarterback Geno Smith replaced him in the fourth quarter. Smith threw a touchdown pass but also a crtitical interception. He completed 10 of 17 passes for 131 yards.
