Russell Wilson trade details: Broncos give up Drew lock, massive package of picks in deal for Seahawks QB

By | March 8, 2022

From the Emerald City to Mile High City, Russell Wilson is on the move.

The Broncos have acquired Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson in one of the biggest trades in NFL history. ESPN’s Adam Schefter had the first report of the blockbuster deal.

The Seahawks received a package of eight picks and players, including quarterback Drew Lock, in the deal. The trade cannot become official until the first day of the new league year, scheduled for March 16.

The move ends a year-long saga which developed into a reported rift between Wilson and the Seahawks, stemming from the QB’s disappointment in the team’s inability to protect him with a solid offensive line.

After a 7-10 record and middling returns in 2021, the Wilson era in Seattle is officially over after 10 seasons.

Earlier on March 8, the Broncos missed out on quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who informed the Packers that he was staying in Green Bay. Rodgers is reportedly ready to sign a massive contract that will keep him locked in at Lambeau for the foreseeable future.

But the Broncos wouldn’t be denied in their search for a quarterback upgrade. Here’s the deal:

In a mix of players and picks, here’s how the trade breaks down, per multiple reports:

Broncos get: Quarterback Russell Wilson, fourth-round pick.

Seahawks get: Quarterback Drew Lock, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, tight end Noah Fant, two first-round picks, two second-round picks, fifth-round pick.

The deal is pending a few hurdles to clear to become official: Wilson’s no-trade clause (which NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports won’t be an issue), as well as the new league year, which will open on March 16.

Wilson, 33, is entering the final two years of his contract, and recent reports suggest that he could be in line for a new deal, considering he’s now run dry of guaranteed money in his current pact.

Other teams were reportedly in the mix to try and trade for Wilson at different points in the offseason: The Commanders and Eagles were both eyeing a move for Wilson but could not strike a deal.
