The Seattle Seahawks are still searching for a starting-caliber guard on the offensive line, as the team has missed out on most of the top options in free agency and must do all they can to set up quarterback Sam Darnold for success.
Seattle could wait till April’s draft to address the pressing need on the interior of the offensive line, but Sports Illustrated’s Tim Weaver believes the team should sign Jacksonville Jaguars free agent guard Brandon Scherff.
“Scherff has been an excellent and durable guard since he was drafted by Washington 10 years ago. Scherff has appeared in 140 total career games and hasn’t missed one over the last three seasons,” Weaver wrote.
“Scherff has played his entire NFL career at right guard, where the Seahawks have several young options but none of which are any good,” Weaver added.
Scherff started all 17 games for the Jaguars in 2024 and was a solid starter at right guard, allowing zero sacks and 17 quarterback pressures in 625 pass-blocking snaps. The 33-year-old also posted a 64.7 PFF grade and committed just two penalties.
Though Scherff is getting older, the veteran hasn’t missed a game since 2021 and would be a fantastic signing by the Seahawks. The five-time Pro Bowler would immediately step in as a starter on Seattle’s offensive line and provide adequate play at right guard. Additionally, his experience and leadership would be a major asset for a new-look Seahawks’ offense.

Scherff should also be cheap to sign, as Spotrac projects the former first-round pick will land a one-year deal worth around $6.7 million. Seattle still has a good amount of cap space left, so general manager John Schneider should look to address one of the team’s biggest positions of need ahead of the draft and sign Scherff to serve as a starter in Klint Kubiak’s offense.
