Seahawks vs. Bears live score, updates, highlights from NFL ‘Thursday Night Football’ game

By | December 26, 2024

As Week 17 begins, the Seahawks are still fighting for an NFC playoff spot.

Coming into a “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the Bears, Seattle sits at 8-7, trailing the Rams in the NFC West but eliminated from the conference’s wild-card picture. Each game is now make-or-break for the Seahawks’ postseason chances, with a win over Chicago on Thursday being an essential first step toward getting back in the division race.

The Seahawks have had a back-and-forth 2024 season that’s been full of streaks. They began the year on a three-game win streak, then followed it with a three-game losing streak. More recently, Seattle has had two separate instances of consecutive losses, but sandwiched a four-game winning streak in between.

Behind quarterback Geno Smith (3,937 yards, 17 touchdowns, 15 interceptions) the Seahawks’ last-minute postseason hopes rely on a Week 17 win over Chicago. A Rams loss to Arizona on Saturday would then go a long way as well, with Seattle and Los Angeles potentially due for a Week 18 matchup to decide the division.

MORE NFL WEEK 17:

The Bears, though, will be looking to play spoiler on “Thursday Night Football.” The 2024 season hasn’t treated Chicago the way it had hoped, as the team enters this matchup on a nine-game losing streak after a 4-2 start to the year. No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams (3,271 yards, 19 touchdowns, five interceptions) has been good, but not quite elite as a rookie, while the Bears’ defense hasn’t helped by allowing 359.4 total yards per game.

With Chicago now just looking for glimpses of hope to build off of in 2025, Williams and his squad will be looking to snap their losing streak in Week 17. The Bears are likely on their way to a top-10 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, but with enough talented pieces to win games now, they could play a role in keeping Seattle out of the postseason.

Seahawks vs. Bears live updates, results, highlights from Week 17 ‘Thursday Night Football’ matchup

(All times ET)

9:03 p.m. — The Bears are on the move. Swift hides behind some blockers, tip-toeing for a 24 yard catch-and-run. Chicago is nearing midfield.

8:57 p.m. — Seattle’s momentum stalls to result in a punt. Smith was sacked on second down, then its third down play resulted in an offensive offsides penalty. Chicago, still with an opportunity to take the lead with a touchdown, will get the ball back.

8:54 p.m. — Smith steps up in the pocket and finds the speedy Tyler Lockett, who turns around and makes a 15-yard grab to move past midfield.

End of first quarter: Seahawks 3, Bears 0

8:50 p.m. — Seattle ends the first quarter with a five-yard connection between Smith and DK Metcalf.

8:47 p.m. — Williams went to Rome Odunze on 3rd & 6, but the pass is to high for the rookie receiver. For the third time of the opening quarter, Chicago punts.

8:44 p.m. — The Bears’ defense comes through with a nice pass break up. As Smith scrambled toward the line of scrimmage, he could’ve tried to run for a first down, but instead aired out a short pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. It’s incomplete, and the Seahawks punt again.

8:40 p.m. — Two drives, two punts for Chicago. Williams did pick up a fresh set of downs with completions to D.J. Moore and Swift, but found nothing else from there.

8:33 p.m. — Now, the Seahawks will punt after a three-and-out. Montez Sweat brought Smith down to begin the drive, an eight-yard loss that Seattle couldn’t overcome. The Bears will quickly get a second opportunity with the ball.

8:29 p.m. — Chicago goes three-and-out on its first drive. D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson combined for five rushing yards, but that’s all the Bears could get.

8:28 p.m. — Caleb Williams comes onto the field as the Bears look to answer. He’s been sacked 60 times this season, the most in the NFL.

Seahawks 3, Bears 0

8:24 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Geno Smith was nearly picked off on third down, but luckily for Seattle, it fell incomplete. The Seahawks settle for a 27-yard field goal from Jason Myers on their opening drive.

8:21 p.m. — Seattle is deep into Chicago territory on its first drive. Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh have already combined for 53 rushing yards, including a 25-yard dash by McIntosh.

8:18 p.m. — Charbonnet’s first carry of the evening is a physical one, as he stampedes through a few Bears defenders to set up third and short.

8:15 p.m. — They’re all set to go at Soldier Field. The Seahawks’ offense will get the ball first.

7:42 p.m. — Tonight will be a good late-season opportunity in prime time for Bears QB Caleb Williams, who hasn’t thrown an interception since October 13.

7:41 p.m. — And a look at Chicago’s inactives list:

7:39 p.m. — Here’s the inactives list for Seattle tonight. RB Kenneth Walker was placed on IR earlier today, meaning Zach Charbonnet will be stepping in as the team’s RB1.
