Georgia is getting its first test of the season against South Carolina in a battle of the quarterbacks.

Carson Beck will get his third career start for the Bulldogs as they begin conference play. Taking over for Stetson Bennett, Beck still needs to prove his ability to lead the back-to-back national champions. He earned wins over UT-Martin and Ball State, throwing for 577 yards and three touchdowns, but the SEC will bring a new challenge for the junior.

Spencer Rattler, on the other hand, takes the cake when it comes to experience, though his second season-opener didn’t go according to plan as the Gamecocks took a beating against North Carolina. Rattler failed to throw a touchdown and was sacked nine times. He found his rhythm against Furman, passing for 345 yards and three touchdowns. South Carolina’s line will need to stay on its toes if it wants to keep the Georgia defense at bay and let Rattler do his thing.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are eyeing a repeat of last year’s matchup where they took an easy win of 48-7. They’ve won seven of the last eight meetings, but their one loss came in home territory in 2019.

FINAL: Georgia 24, South Carolina 14

6:52 p.m. – The Bulldogs escape the upset from South Carolina after being down by 11 at halftime. They become the eighth team in SEC history to win 20 straight games.

6:50 p.m. INTERCEPTION – Another turnover for Rattler! This time Georgia’s Tykee Smith is there. With 20 seconds left, Georgia takes a knee to end the game.

6:39 p.m. INTERCEPTION – The first interception of the night! Dan Jackson is able to sneak through to take away Rattler’s pass.

6:36 p.m. – Facing pressure at third and 16, Rattler completes to O’Mega Blake for 41 yards. The Gamecocks need to score on this drive if they want a chance at a win.

6:31 p.m. – South Carolina’s defense doesn’t let anything through, forcing a fourth down and a punt for the Bulldogs. Six minutes remain on the game clock.

6:25 p.m. – The Gamecocks went for it on fourth and 15, but Rattler’s pass is incomplete. Georgia takes over on South Carolina’s 46-yard line.

6:13 p.m. TOUCHDOWN – The Bulldogs cashes in another touchdown with the help of a 13-yard run from Cash Jones. With nine minutes remaining, they look to end the game on a high note after a slow start.

6:05 p.m. – The rain is pouring in Athens now. May be affecting Rattler, who nearly throws an interception. South Carolina punts the ball after failing to find a first down. 

6:02 p.m. – Another missed field goal from Woodring. This time, it’s wide right on a 43-yard attempt.

6:00 p.m. – Georgia moves back 15 yards to the Carolina 25 on third down after a holding penalty called on Tate Ratledge.

5:56 p.m. – The Bulldogs find their way in South Carolina’s red zone with the help of a Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint reception and Cash Jones run. Beck looks more confident in his deep throws. He’ll look for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to extend Georgia’s lead before Rattler takes over on the Gamecock offense.

5:40 p.m. TOUCHDOWN – Georgia goes ahead! Dillon Bells runs it in for the Bulldogs first lead of the afternoon.

5:30 p.m. – Georgia seems like a whole new team. Rattler and the Gamecocks can’t even find a yard in their first drive of the half.

5:23 p.m. TOUCHDOWN – Daijun Edwards finds a way! He finds 7 yards for Georgia’s first touchdown. A delay of game prevents a 2-point conversion, but Woodring hits his extra point for a full seven points on the board for Georgia in the second half.

5:22 p.m. – The Dawgs are fired up in the second half. Beck to Rara Thomas gets 36 yards for Georgia on its first drive of the half.

5:15 p.m. – South Carolina is the fifth unranked team in the AP Poll era to lead the No. 1 team by double digits at halftime on the road.

5:00 p.m. – Georgia tries to score on its final drive of the half but fall short. Stone Blanton reaches Beck for a sack to send the teams into their locker rooms with a decent South Carolina lead. What’s happening in Athens?

4:51 p.m. TOUCHDOWN – Dakereon Joyner is through! South Carolina scores its second touchdown with just a minute remaining in the half. The Dawgs’ defense need to find a way to stop Rattler and the Gamecocks if they want to erase their deficit.

4:48 p.m. – Rattler is taking over! His 35-yard pass is complete to Xavier Legette, and the Gamecocks near Georgia’s red zone. They have just over a minute to extend their lead before halftime.

4:45 p.m. – No points for Georgia. Woodring’s 28-yard field goal attempt leans left with less than four minutes in the half.

4:39 p.m. – The Dawgs go for their first fourth-down conversion and make it. Beck passes to Oscar Delp for 7 yards and take over at Carolina’s 30.

4:22 p.m. – Beck’s pass is blocked down by TJ Sanders, forcing a fourth down for Georgia. The Dawgs will need to step it up on their next drive if they want to catch up to South Carolina by the half.
