
NBA, NHL and college sports are playing critical postseason games this week, but nothing is quite like the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The annual competition is back for its 2025 edition with 243 kids set to compete. There are students in second, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade competing this year. Additionally, the students are as young as 8 years old and as old as 14.

They’ll begin the journey to becoming the next champion in the preliminary rounds on Tuesday, May 27. Quarterfinals and semifinals will be on Wednesday, May 28, and the finals on Thursday, May 29.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee will air live on ION and Bounce XL. Bounce XL will feature the preliminary round and quarterfinals, while ION will broadcast the semifinals and finals.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee preliminary round will begin at 8 a.m. and extend to 4:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 27. It will take place at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.
