Steelers predicted to ditch Aaron Rodgers, Will Howard for dual-threat 25-TD quarterback

The quarterback position for the Pittsburgh Steelers could look a lot different in 2026.

The team signed Aaron Rodgers to serve as the starter in 2025 but also selected Will Howard in Round 6 of the draft to add some youth to the position group.

However, Rodgers is on a one-year deal and could end up retiring after the 2025 campaign, and Howard still hasn’t proven himself to be the long-term answer, so the Steelers could be right back in the quarterback market in the spring.

If the Rodgers experiment only lasts a year and Howard doesn’t do enough to establish himself as the quarterback of the future, Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante believes Pittsburgh will select South Carolina signal-caller LaNorris Sellers in Round 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft.

“Sixth-round pick Will Howard was a solid flier, but the Pittsburgh Steelers may still be searching for their next franchise quarterback. Though LaNorris Sellers isn’t the consensus QB1 in the 2026 class, he might have the best physical tools of any quarterback in college football,” Infante wrote.

Sellers’ dual-threat skill set makes him an exciting prospect at the next level. The 19-year-old isn’t a finished product yet and should take another step forward in 2025, but he showed a ton of promise in 2024 for South Carolina and figures to be one of the top quarterbacks in the nation this season.

The Steelers, who could use a quarterback with mobility, would be a nice landing spot for Sellers. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound signal-caller has all the physical tools to flourish in the NFL, and if he continues to develop as a passer, there’s no reason why he can’t be a franchise quarterback.
