Stephen Jones bizarrely blames Vikings for why Cowboys haven’t paid CeeDee Lamb

The Minnesota Vikings have had a tremendous offseason. They drafted their quarterback of the future and extended cornerstone pieces in wide receiver Justin Jefferson and left tackle Christian Darrisaw.

What does that have to do with the Dallas Cowboys? Well, they have to pay the likes of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and edge rusher Micah Parsons top-of-the-market money and that doesn’t include quarterback Dak Prescott.

Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones spoke to the media on Thursday and bizarrely placed blame on the Vikings for their own struggles.

“I welcome the opportunity that we’ve drafted well enough to have one of the best quarterbacks in the league, one of the best as pass rushers in the league, if not the best and one of the best receivers, if not the best receiver in the league. It’s great that we draft like that, but it does take time, and it’s certainly not easy. You know, you look at a guy like Jefferson, they’re not (Vikings) paying a quarterback, they’re not paying anybody on their roster at this point, so it’s a lot of easier for them to stretch a little more. And we’re just trying to move through reasonably with CD (CeeDee Lamb). asonably with Dak (Prescott), what we can do do to make it work From an economic standpoint. And certainly when you’re trying to pay three guys like that. It certainly does. Limit your opportunities to maybe improve the roster.”

The claim that the Vikings haven’t paid anyone other than Jefferson is crazy. They just extended Darrisaw along with signing Jonathan Greenard to a massive contract during the offseason and T.J. Hockenson last summer. Yes, the Vikings have a lot of cap space at their disposal moving forward, but the idea that they aren’t paying anyone is bonkers.

The Cowboys are going to have a tough time getting everyone paid during this time because of their salary cap situation, but it’s not the fault of the Vikings.
