Will the super lightweight division play host to another huge upset or will Teofimo Lopez do what is largely expected and blast out unheralded underdog Steve Claggett on Saturday, June 29, at the James L. Knight Center in Miami? The scheduled 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast by ESPN+ in the U.S.
Lopez, who will be defending his WBO and Ring Magazine titles, is looking to shine after an unconvincing winning performance over Jamaine Ortiz in February. The 26-year-old boxer-puncher remains a fixture on most pound-for-pound lists, and he’s a formidable fighter when on form.
“My punch output, my combinations, my positioning punches, I believe this fight is not going to go 12 rounds,” Lopez told The Sporting News recently. “Despite this guy coming forward, being who he is, he does slow down after the sixth and seventh rounds. I look forward to picking him apart.”

Claggett will be taking part in his first world title fight, and he’s a prohibitive +900 underdog. However, the Canadian contender will draw inspiration from Australian Liam Paro, who upset huge odds to wrench the IBF 140-pound crown from feared power-puncher Subriel Matias earlier this month.
“I feel like this fight will be the culmination of all the hard work and years I have put into boxing” Claggett told MaxBoxing. “I feel very good both physically and mentally right now. I feel like everything is coming together for me.
“I just look forward to going into the ring and showing everyone what I can do on fight night.”
