It’s all come down to this. Game 3 of the 2025 Women’s College World Series will be held on Friday, June 6. Texas Tech and Texas will duke it out one final time, and when the dust settles, a national champion will be crowned.
The story of the Red Raiders’ postseason has been NiJaree Canady. Heading into Game 3, she has thrown every single pitch for Texas Tech in the Women’s College World Series. Canady was asked if she was concerned about her shoulder holding up, and she said, “I have all summer to rest. I’m ready to play softball.”
We often talk about starting pitchers struggling the longer their starts last because opposing hitters become accustomed to seeing the pitches. That could be a key factor if Texas finally figures something out with Canady and can get to her early in the national championship.

The Longhorns are trying to win their first softball national championship in program history. Texas has had to sit back and watch as its biggest rival, Oklahoma, has become a softball dynasty, and now it has the chance to win its first national title.
The Longhorns have been carried on the mound by their own ace Teagan Kavan. She is the starting pitcher who has been inspired by the loss of her grandmother at the start of the WCWS. Kavan pitched in Game 1, and the one run that she gave up was unearned. She pitched the final two outs in the bottom of the 8th in Game 2 to make sure that the Red Raiders didn’t increase their lead.
