Tiger Woods live score: Updated PGA Championship leaderboard, results, highlights from Friday’s Round 2

By | May 20, 2022

There will be plenty of eyes on Tiger Woods’ group at the 2022 PGA Championship on Friday.

For starters, Rory McIlroy finished Round 1 with one of the best starts to a major in his career at 5 under par. He entered the second day of the tournament trailing only Justin Thomas. Expectations were high for Jordan Spieth, who got off to a slow start but showed glimpses of why he was considered one of the early favorites to win the tournament.

Then, of course, there’s Woods. The four-time PGA Championship winner got off to a fast start (2 under through the first five holes), but finished at 4 over for the day. That puts Woods in danger of missing the cut. Woods also appeared to be dealing with a leg injury that he said hampered his play.

Hole 18, Par 4

Shot 3: Spieth with a clutch approach after taking the penalty as this shot lands on the green and curves toward the hole. He has a shot at making par on the 18.

Shot 2: McIlroy’s iron shot carries a bit too far to the right and lands in the bunker. Woods lands on the green with a chance for a long birdie or a two-putt par. Spieth’s ball landed in the creek and took a penalty.

Shot 1: Spieth’s shot hooks well to the right, and it might be in the penalty area. Tough shot after he got back to even. Woods with a good drive down the fairway. McIlroy keeps his straight down the middle as well.

Hole 17, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods saves par on the 17. McIlroy sinks the short putt for par.

Shot 3: McIlroy with a solid chip shot to put himself in position for par. Woods’ shot drifts a bit past the hole over near McIlroy’s ball. Spieth is back to even at the 2022 PGA Championship with a birdie.

Shot 2: Woods’ iron shot sails a bit past the green. He’ll have to go up-and-down for par. Spieth gets a nice roll on the green as the ball cuts back toward the hole. McIlroy’s takes a hop off the green and bounces a few yards back of the green.

Shot 1: Stinger by Woods that goes a bit right. Close to the rough. Spieth sends his iron straight down the fairway, and it rolls a bit farther down. McIlroy crushes the ball off the tee, but it rolls into the rough near the penalty area. Dangerous starting spot for him.

Hole 16, Par 4

Shot 4: Spieth sinks the 6-foot putt for par. McIlroy saves par with his putt.

Shot 3: McIlroy lifts his shot to the green and now finds himself in short par range. Spieth tried to chip the ball into the hole, but it went a bit past the hole. Still only a few feet away from the hole. Woods picks up his second birdie in the past four holes to go to 3 under, a stroke below the cut line.

Shot 2: Spieth’s shot doesn’t reach the green, but it stays on the fairway. Up-and-down to come for Spieth to make par. Woods drops his shot under five feet from the hole. Excellent chance for another birdie to put himself further past the projected cut. McIlroy lifts the shot high, but he’s still well short of the green.

Shot 1: Spieth crushes a drive straight down the fairway. Woods also sticks on the fairway with the driver to get off to a good start on the 16th hole. McIlroy’s hooks right and bounces into the bunker.

Hole 15, Par 4

Shot 4: McIlroy taps in for the par. Woods makes the putt look easy for par.

Shot 3: Great shot from the bunker by Woods in what was a tricky situation. He keeps that ball right next to the pin and has enough spin on it to keep it from rolling down the green. McIlroy’s shot doesn’t have enough behind it to finish for the birdie. Spieth sinks the birdie.

Shot 2: Woods’ shot lands in the bunker behind the pin. McIlroy keeps his in the green. Spieth bounces his shot onto the green and a few feet away from the hole. Good chance for a birdie.

Shot 1: Woods and McIlroy both send straight drives down the fairway. Spieth’s hooks a bit to the left.

Hole 14, Par 3

Shot 3: McIlroy and Spieth tap in for par. Woods saves par with a 14.5 foot putt.

Shot 2: Great upslope shot by Spieth puts him right next to the pin. Woods’ chip didn’t get as close to the pin as he would probably have liked. Long putt for par coming up. McIlroy rolls his putt just a few inches from the hole. He’ll take par.

Shot 1: Woods’ shot hits the green, but rolls just outside to the side. He avoids the bunker though, and still isn’t far off from the green. McIlroy’s shot lands on the far side of the green. Spieth drops his shot in the bunker in front of the green.

Hole 13, Par 5

Shot 5: Spieth and Jordan pick up pars.

Shot 4: Spieth’s birdie putt comes up short. He’ll have a chance for par on his second putt. McIlroy’s putt drifts just to the side. Not quite tap-in range, so he’ll have to wait to finish the par. Birdie putt for Woods. He’s back at the projected cut line.

Shot 3: Spieth lands on the green, still a few feet from the hole, but at least within range of a long birdie putt. Woods sends his shot hooking right past the hole. This could be a great shot for him to pick up a birdie and get back on the projected cut line. McIlroy spots his ball near Woods’ to also get near birdie range.

Shot 2: Spieth’s shot crosses the fairway and sails over to the left, nearly reaching the gallery on the other side. He goes from rough to rough. Wood stays on the fairway with another good shot straight away. McIlroy gets back to the fairway with his second shot.

Shot 1: McIlroy’s shot off the tee looks like it sails a bit to the right. Spieth’s shot is also well off to the right, hitting his into the gallery. Woods is the only one to start on the fairway, as his drive is sent right down the middle.

Hole 12, Par 4

Shot 4: Tap-in for Spieth keeps him at par on the hole. Woods comes up clutch with the putt for par. That was an important shot for him.

Shot 3: Woods nearly chips it from the bunker to the hole, but it picks up speed after passing the hole and rolls a bit farther than he’d probably like. Longer putt upcoming for par. Spieth’s putt trails just to the right and misses the hole. McIlroy makes the putt for birdie.

Shot 2: Nice approach by McIlroy as his shot hits the green a few feet away from the hole and stops. Might have a chance at his first birdie. Woods’ shot lands in the bunker back to the left of the hole. Spieth’s shot hits the green near the edge and rolls back toward the hole.

Shot 1: McIlroy’s drive hangs in just on the right side of the fairway before reaching the rough. Great drive by Spieth as it hooks to the left and stays on the fairway. One of the best driver shots from Woods after his double bogey.

Hole 11, Par 3

Shot 5: Double bogey for Woods. That will put him past the projected cut line.

Shot 4: Woods misses the putt for bogey as it sails just too far. Spieth will settle for the bogey.

Shot 3: Woods lifts the ball up onto the green just past the pin. With the projected cut line at +4, this is an important bogey shot coming up for him. McIlroy taps in the par. Spieth’s putt just misses for par.

Shot 2: Spieth with a great approach that stops just after passing the flag. He’ll have a good chance at par on his first putt. Woods lifts his shot onto the green, but it lands in the bunker. Another birdie putt miss for McIlroy. He’ll have to settle for another par.

Shot 1: Not a great drive by Spieth, as he clearly shanks it. Got under the ball. Some frustration there by him. Woods’ shot isn’t much better as it goes for a double cross, rolling well past the green. He narrowly missed the penalty. McIlroy is the only one of the trio to land it on the green to start the 11th.

Hole 10, Par 4

Shot 4: Tap-in by McIlroy gives him another par.

Shot 3: McIlroy’s birdie attempt comes up short again. He has yet to tally a birdie through his first 10 holes. Spieth knocks in the putt for a birdie, his second birdie of the day. Woods sinks the birdie putt as well. He’s back at 3 over.

Shot 2: Really nice approach by Woods, as his shot hits just in front of the pin and stays close after the bounce. McIlroy’s shot hits the green a little past the flag. Spieth’s shot hit past and to the right of the pin and rolls back with plenty of speed, but it hits Woods’ ball and comes to a stop.

Shot 1: Spieth’s shot hooks right down the fairway and stays on the fairway after curving around the trees. McIlroy’s shot drives a bit to the left, but also sticks on the fairway. Woods with a good drive down the fairway as well.

Hole 9, Par 4

Shot 4: Spieth and Woods finish the tap-ins for par. McIlroy, with the slightly longer putt, also makes his for par.

Shot 3: McIlroy’s putt drifts too hard to the left at the end and misses the hole. Spieth’s downhill putt rolls just around the left side of the hole. Woods’ putt starts to drift low, and he’ll have to settle for par.

Shot 2: McIlroy hits the green with his shot from the rough. Long putt due up for him for birdie. Woods drops his shot in a near-perfect spot, bouncing it right on the slope, and he’ll have a short-range putt for birdie. Spieth’s shot rolls just past the pin on the green, but he’ll also have a great chance to putt for a birdie.

Shot 1: Spieth with a long drive that stays on the fairway to open the ninth. McIlroy crushes the ball, but it carries to the left over the crowd. Woods brings the driver back out and sends the ball down the fairway, hooking slightly to the left, with the ball rolling at the end just into the crowd.

Hole 8, Par 3

Shot 4: Tap-in by Woods.

Shot 3: Unbelievable effort by Woods nearly saves par, but it stops inches from the hole. First bogey of the afternoon for Woods. Spieth rolls in his putt for par. McIlroy bounces back with a par.

Shot 2: Spieth lines his ball from the downslope of the bunker out to just beyond the pin. Close range putt for par. Woods, with his back to the grandstand, chips the ball to the edge of the green. He will have a difficult shot for par coming up. McIlroy with a good chip shot that sets him up with an easy putt coming up.

Shot 1: Woods’ iron shot carries well over the green, and might have been stopped by the grandstand. Spieth’s hooks to the right and lands in the bunker to the side of the green. McIlroy’s shot hits the center of the green and rolls just off.

Hole 7, Par 4

Shot 5: Third putt finishes McIlroy’s seventh hole.

Shot 4: Woods finishes up with par. He has yet to finish above par through the second round. Spieth makes the long putt for par. McIlroy misses the putt for par.

Shot 3: Spieth rolls his shot out in front of the pin from the bunker. Woods fires in his wedge shot close to the hole, and will be set up well for another par. McIlroy gains some distance on the putt, but he’ll still have a longer putt for par.

Shot 2: Woods’ shot trails to the right and just misses the green. It avoids rolling down too close to the water. McIlroy hits the far-side of the green on his second shot. Spieth’s shot hits the edge of the green and appears to roll into the bunker.

Shot 1: Woods drives it straight down the fairway, and it hooks just to the right at the end. He’s landed on every fairway since the second hole. Spieth’s drive bends a bit to the left and curves into the rough. McIlroy keeps his drive on the middle of the fairway to start the seventh hole.

Hole 6, Par 3

Shot 3: Spieth, Woods and McIlroy finish off for par.

Shot 2: Really nice putt from 40 feet out by McIlroy to land close to the hole. Set up well for par on the next shot. Putt by Spieth nearly finishes with a birdie, but it comes up just short. Woods’ putt for birdie also comes up so close, just rolls around the edge of the hole.

Shot 1: Woods, Spieth and McIlroy each send their iron shots onto the green to start the sixth hole. Looks like Woods is the closest. McIlroy has the furthest to go.

Hole 5, Par 5

Shot 5: McIlroy and Spieth both settle for par.

Shot 4: Spieth and McIlroy both come up short on putt attempts for a birdie. Woods picks up his first birdie by finishing off the putt.

Shot 3: Spieth lands on the green, and while the ball rolled away from the pin, it stayed on the green to set him up for a two-putt par. Woods with a great approach. His shot bounces right in front of the pin and he’ll have a short putt for a birdie. McIlroy lifts his shot out of the bunker and keeps it on the green well within range of a putt for par.

Shot 2: Spieth sends his shot out onto the fairway. Woods sends a stinger that stays in the fairway after a few bounces. McIlroy redeems a bad start by nearly reaching the green, but falling into the bunker, with the iron from deep within the crowd. He’s now the closest to the pin.

Shot 1: Spieth’s shot hits the trees and rolls onto the left rough near the crowd. Just missed the bunker on the left side of the par 5 hole. Woods’ drive curves right back onto the center of the fairway. Third straight hole he’s landed on the fairway. McIlroy drives his to the left, but it doesn’t appear to curve far. He might be shooting his second shot within the crowd.

Hole 4, Par 4

Shot 4: Woods is a perfect four-for-four on making par on Friday. McIlroy also finishes the hole with par.

Shot 3: McIlroy’s shot is a bit to the right of the hole, not quite in tap-in range. It’ll take another shot to make par. Woods’ birdie putt passes on the right, and he’ll also need a second putt. Spieth with the perfect putt to sink the first birdie from this group.

Shot 2: From 121 yards out, Woods sends his shot right out to the middle of the green. Great start for him. Spieth’s shot lands feet away from the hole, setting him up for the best birdie chance of the day from this group. McIlroy’s ball lands between Woods’ and Spieth’s.

Shot 1: Woods sends a stinger up the middle that stays in the fairway. Spieth drives it hard, but it carries to the left into the rough. McIlroy connects on his drive well, sending it perfectly down the middle on the fairway.

Hole 3, Par 4

Shot 4: Spieth, Woods and McIlroy all finish up with par.

Shot 3: McIlroy with a near-perfect chip shot. His shot is on point near the pin. Short putt for par coming up. Excitement from the crowd on Woods’ putt that nearly reaches the hole, but it stops short. Tap-in to come. Spieth’s putt is just wide to the right. He’ll have to settle for par.

Shot 2: McIlroy’s iron shot falls just short of the green. Woods lands his on the green, which will set him up for a two-putt par or a long try for birdie. Spieth is the closest to the pin, however, and he’ll have a chance to putt for birdie.

Shot 1: Woods is the first in the group to land his drive on the fairway to start. He sends his first shot on the third hole straight up the middle. Spieth sends his shot right out by Woods, as he, too, lands on the fairway for the first time. McIlroy’s shot looks like it gets slowed up by the tree and drops down in the rough.

Hole 2, Par 4

Shot 5: McIlroy taps his putt in for the bogey.

Shot 4: McIlroy nearly rolls his in from the edge, but it is just short. He’ll need a tap-in to finish off the bogey. Spieth and Woods both finish putts for par.

Shot 3: Very nearly a chip-in from the bunker by Woods. His shot rolls almost all the way to the pin, but doesn’t have enough behind it to finish rolling in. He is set up well for par on his first putt. McIlroy hits his shot a bit too hard, and it rolls across the green and to the edge. Spieth rolls his out close to the pin, but it stops short.

Shot 2: Woods’ second shot lands in the bunker in front of the green. Great approach by Spieth as he sends his shot out onto the green. McIlroy’s shot bounces off the green and rolls nearly into the bunker behind it, but it stays just on the grass.

Shot 1: All three drives by McIlroy, Woods and Spieth hook right into the rough. None of the three golfers have been able to land in the fairway to start, a product of the strong winds in Tulsa.

Hole 1, Par 4

Shot 5: Spieth ends his round with a bogey.

Shot 4: Spieth nearly makes the long putt for par, but it just curves left at the end to miss the hole and go a few feet past. Woods finishes the tap-in to finish the hole with par. He bogeyed the hole in Round 1. McIlroy sinks his putt for par.

Shot 3: Spieth’s third shot hits the edge of the green and rolls onto the green. McIlroy flips a wedge shot from the edge to within five feet of the pin. He’s set up well for par. Woods’ putt can’t curve enough to make the long birdie putt, but he’ll settle for a tap-in par.

Shot 2: Woods lands his shot on the green, setting up for a long putt for birdie or a two-putt par. Spieth sends his ball straight into a tree branch just a few yards in front of him. McIlroy gently sends his shot out toward the green, but it stays on the edge.

Shot 1: Spieth starts Friday’s round off by hooking his first shot a bit to the left of the fairway. Looked to be overcorrecting for the strong winds. McIlroy’s drive also lands in the rough on the left side. Woods’ drive is carried to the right by the wind, and his starts in the rough on the right.
