The countdown to the Olympics continues at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships. With it comes gymnasts’ final chance for a shot at the 2024 Trials.
Before it even began, one Olympic hopeful closed her bid at a spot on the Paris team. Gabby Douglas, a two-time Olympian and all-around gold medalist, sustained an ankle injury during training. Not only is she unable to compete at the U.S. Championships, but she decided to stop her Games pursuit. Don’t worry, she’s already eyeing a run at the 2028 Olympics.
No surprise this competition’s biggest name is Simone Biles. The most decorated gymnast of all times is trying for a third Olympics, something no American woman has done since 2000. She’s on track to do so, having won the all-around at the Core Classics a few weeks ago.
Suni Lee, the reigning all-around gold medalist, will make her all-around return at the U.S. Championships. The former Auburn star was sidelined for over a year with a kidney condition, keeping her off the competition stage until this May. She won the beam title at Classics but has yet to compete on all four events this season.
Plenty more Olympic hopefuls will join the two at the U.S. Championships, like Shilese Jones, Skye Blakely and Kayla DiCello as well as 2020 teammates Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey.
Who will make their case heard for the 2024 Olympic Trials next month?

U.S. Gymnastics Championships live results, highlights from senior women’s day 1
All times Eastern.
9:15 p.m. – No words. Biles on beam is as good as it gets. It’s a 14.800.
8:51 p.m. – Halfway through, Biles still leads, followed by Blakely, Chiles, DiCello and Carey.
8:49 p.m. – Kaliya Lincoln will scratch floor and and vault after putting up a 12.700 on bars and 12.300 on beam. An ankle injury sustained during podium training is lingering, so rather than risk competing today, the gymnast will petition for trials.
Thomas will also scratch the remainder of the championships.
8:43 p.m. – Chiles sings like Beyoncé (who inspired tonight’s leo) on bars. She puts up a 14.2000, tied for the second best thus far.

8:23 p.m. – Kayla DiCello’s 14.500 on bars puts her in second after the first rotation. What a strong start for the 2023 Pan Am champ. Skye Blakely sits in third followed by Tiana Sumanasekera and Lee.

8:17 p.m. – Trinity Thomas, the Florida star, crashes the full-twisting double layout to open her floor routine and was short on her ensuing double layout. She was unable to finish her routine, limping slightly, but was able to walk off the floor on her own.
She’s scratched vault with a stunned ankle.
8:10 p.m. – Lee barely hangs onto the beam after her second layout stepout, but she hangs on. She scores a 14.200 to start her first all-around competition in over a year.
8:03 p.m. – Simone Biles kicks things off with the Biles II, also known as a Yurchenko double pike. A step back, but a great start for the GOAT. She scores a massive 15.800.
