The matchup always seemed destined to happen, and now it’s finally here. The Americans and Canadians are ready to battle for the gold medal.
Team USA and Team Canada will face off at the Wukesong Sports Centre in Beijing on Wednesday night in the final contest of the 2022 Olympic women’s hockey tournament. They will add yet another chapter to their fierce rivalry, as they have met in the gold-medal game in five of the past six Olympics.
“It’s wonderful hockey. It’s the most beautiful rivalry in sports,” Team USA forward Hilary Knight said. “It gets the best and the worst out of both of us at the same time. It’s a wonderful game.”
Team Canada has won the gold medal four times overall, but the Americans took home the gold most recently, defeating the Canadians at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.
