LONDON STADIUM — Manchester City will aim to make it five wins out of five at the start of their Premier League title defence when they travel to West Ham.

Erling Haaland marked his Premier League debut with a brace at the London Stadium last season and he has flown out of the blocks again this time around, with a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Fulham taking him to six goals in four appearances.

West Ham could provide the toughest test yet for Pep Guardiola’s side, who will have their manager back on the touchline following a two-game absence due to back surgery.

David Moyes’ men have won three games in succession, with victories on the road against in-form Brighton and top-flight newcomers Luton following a 3-1 home triumph over Chelsea.

West Ham vs Man City live updates, highlights, and commentary

32nd minute: A break in play after a coming together between Dias and Antonio allows the players to take on fluid. Guardiola is out busily dispensing instructions, not entirely like a man who’s just had back surgery.

30th minute: Bowen shimmies in from the right and delivered a teasing ball across the City box. For reasons best known to himself, Antonio is loitering out on the left wing and there’s no one to finish.

28th minute: Zouma is really getting through some work back there, first thwarting an attempted pass through by Alvarez to Haaland before blocking a shot from the Norwegian superstar. Then Areola holds onto a Rodri long-ranger.

27th minute: Doku wins another City corner that Foden blooters straight out of play. James Ward-Prowse would never…

25th minute: Antonio fancies this battle with Akanji but Silva gets back to help out this time and City avoid conceding the corner.

22nd minute: Antonio has a run at Akanji. The Swiss defender stands firm at the expense of corner. Time for another Ward-Prowse special…. Ederson gets there first.

21st minute: Lovely touch from Foden on the edge of the D. It opens up room to shoot and Zouma gets a vital toe on a low drive to send it the right side of the post from a West Ham perspective. This corner is less eventful.

19th minute: Doku cuts in for a shot of his own but it’s a tame right-footed effort straight at Areola.

17th minute: Now West Ham almost lead! Ward-Prowse whips in one of his devilish curling corners, Soucek wins the near-post flick and Aguerd can’t divert it into the net. Looking at the replays, Ward-Prowse’s corner as swerving so much that Soucek might have actually stopped it from going in!

15th minute: Horror miss from Erling Haaland! Goodness me, you’d put your mortgage on him scoring that. Doku, who has been very bright early on, feed Gvardiol. The left-back drills one across the box, it might have been a mishit shot but Haaland is free with the goal gaping at the far post and somehow scuffs wide.

14th minute: Loose pass from Gvardiol and Coufal romps into the City half. Carless from Antonio, though, who see Silva more or less nip under his armpit to pinch the ball.

11th minute: City are already into an ominous rhythm but a little sign of encouragement as Foden coughs up possession and is forced to foul Ward-Prowse. It’s so far inside the Hammers half that there’s no booking but the hosts should get opportunities to break if they bide their time.

7th minute: Oh my word, how has that not gone in?!?! Pinball and chaos in the West Ham area as Areola saves Rodri’s header from Foden’s corner. Foden puts it back towards the Spain international who has one shot blocked and another flicked goalwards by Haaland. Soucek clears that off the line and then Areola tips over from Dias’s follow-up header. Get all that? Good!

6th minute: Doku gets Coufal isolated and darts around him. West Ham can’t let that happen too often. Zouma heads behind.

4th minute: A nice bit of controlled possession for West Ham in City territory is disturbed as Gvardiol introduces himself to Bowen with a meaty tackle. The visitors get up the other end, Haaland looks to play Foden in and Coufal slides it behind for the first corner of the game. 

2nd minute: Foden is playing tucked in off the right-hand side, with Walker holding the width out there. The two combine and West Ham scramble away Foden’s chipped cross that was aimed towards Haaland.

1st minute: Julian Alvarez gets us underway. West Ham in their traditional claret and blue, City in their white away shirt with claret shorts. Good day for fans of claret.

4 mins to kickoff: Here come the teams. Di Canio just led the stadium in a chorus of West Ham’s “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” anthem and it gets its traditional airing as Kyle Walker and Kurt Zouma lead the sides out.

10 mins to kickoff: Former West Ham crowd favourite Paolo Di Canio is just about to be presented to his adoring public before we get underway, while there will also be a moment’s silence to commemorate the victims of the the Moroccan earthquake.

30 mins to kickoff: City’s record at the London Stadium is an excellent one. They’ve never lost here but West Ham have tightened things up over recent years. In Guardiola’s mixed first season in charge in 2016/17, his team won 5-0 in the FA Cup and 4-0 in the Premier League in the space of a month. Two of the three most recent editions of the fixture ended in draws, with City battling back from 1-0 and 2-0 down respectively to earn a point. On the opening day of last season, Erling Haaland proved to be the difference on his Premier League debut.

50 mins to kickoff: This is the West Ham team. James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez and Tomas Soucek make up a robust-looking midfield three who will have to get through plenty of work. Kudus will have to make his home debut from the bench.

1 hour to kickoff: The teams are in. Recent signings Josko Gvardiola and Jeremy Doku start for City and Bernardo Silva returns to the start XI. Nunes is among a bench of only eight, including two goalkeepers. Kovacic, John Stones, Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne are all injured.

1 hr 20 mins to kickoff: Team news will be confirmed in about 20 minutes and there could be a couple of full debuts. Mohammed Kudus was a late substitute in West Ham 2-1 win at Luton after joining from Ajax. City signed Matheu Nunes from Wolves on deadline day and an injury to Mateo Kovacic might put him in line for a start. 

1 hr 40 mins to kickoff: It’s absolutely scorching down in east London today — something the Sporting News did not take into account in terms of attire when leaving slate-grey northern England this morning. Both teams will undoubtedly be far better prepared for the conditions, but it doesn’t feel like an ideal day to be running around after Manchester City as they rack up in excess of 70% of possession. David Moyes’ bench will be very important to him if West Ham are to get a result.

David Moyes has no major injury concerns, Vladimir Coufal coming through a late fitness test to start at right-back. Mohammed Kudus will have to make his home debut from the bench after joining from Ajax.
