After taking the chequered flag at his home race in Zandvoort last weekend, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen now has the chance to make history at the 2023 Italian Grand Prix.
Another win would make it ten in a row for the Dutchman, a tally which would see him beat Sebastian Vettel’s current run of nine victories in 2013 to claim the longest winning streak record.
But the Italian Grand Prix — held around the fast straights of Monza — has a habit of throwing up an upset.
That was seen back in 2020 when Pierre Gasly claimed his maiden F1 win with AlphaTauri before Daniel Ricciardo took a shock victory a year later with McLaren.
There’s plenty of drivers who’ll be hoping to cause another upset this time around and deny Verstappen the all-out record.
Newly extended Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will look to turn their recent improving form into victory, whilst Spanish veteran Fernando Alonso pushed Verstappen all the way last time out in the Netherlands. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will also be looking to give the Italian crowd something to cheer about after Ferrari’s very underwhelming season so far.
