What channel is Fairleigh Dickinson vs. Texas Southern on today? Time, TV schedule for 2023 NCAA First Four game

By | March 15, 2023

With the regular season, conference tournaments and Selection Sunday all in the books, it comes down to this. Win or go home. Even though March is half over, the branded madness is finally here.

The First Four is where many great Cinderella stories begin. The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights and Texas Southern Tigers tip off the Wednesday action as two 16 seeds play for a chance to battle top-seeded Purdue in the East Region on Friday.

Texas Southern clinched a spot in the tournament after winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) following a victory over the regular-season champions, Grambling State. It was the Tigers’ only possible path to the postseason after they finished with a 14-20 overall record, including 7-11 in conference play.

Keeping with the theme of unusual qualifiers, Fairleigh Dickinson enters the tournament in bizarre fashion. Despite finishing second in the Northeast Conference (NEC) and losing in the NEC title game, the Knights are going dancing anyway.

The team that won both, Merrimack, is ineligible for the tournament as a result of its transition from Division II to Division I. NCAA rules state any team that makes the jump up in class cannot compete in the tournament for four years. This was the final year of Merrimack’s ineligibility and FDU is the beneficiary.
