When the Cup Series comes to Watkins Glen, sparks tend to fly.
Last year’s series champion, Kyle Larson put on a clinic in the final stage to secure a victory in the Go Bowling at the Glen race. The victory pulled him into a tie with Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin for the lead in regular-season points, setting the stage for Larson’s triumph in the postseason.
With Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott holding a 19-point lead over Ross Chastain, this year’s race doesn’t seem quite as important to the top of the table. It does get interesting at the bottom of the playoff standings, however.
Kevin Harvick turned his whole season around with back-to-back wins at Michigan and Richmond. With just two races left in the regular season, drivers vying for the final playoff spot are hoping for a similar reversal of fortune.
For the likes of Alex Bowman, Bubba Wallace and Martin Truex Jr., the 2022 Go Bowling at the Glen means everything. A victory will seal a trip to the playoffs; anything less than that means an early start on next season.
