What channel is Vikings vs. Eagles on today? Schedule, time for NFL’s Thursday Night Football in Week 2

By | September 14, 2023

NFL fans channeled all their energy into rooting for their respective teams in Week 1. Now, it’s time to do it again in Week 2.

The second week of the 2023 NFL season will begin with a “Thursday Night Football” matchup between the Eagles and the Vikings. Philadelphia will host the matchup, which is taking place nearly a year to date after their Week 2 matchup in 2022.

The Vikings will be hoping for a better showing this year than they had last year. The Eagles pummeled them 24-7 in a strong defensive effort during which Kirk Cousins threw three interceptions and was under a lot of pressure. Cousins will want his offensive line to block better for him, but he must avoid turning the ball over to give the Vikings a chance.

As for the Eagles, they will be looking to get a win to improve to 2-0 on the season. They are coming off a 25-20 win over the Patriots that wasn’t the most convincing performance, but considering that they are breaking in new offensive and defensive coordinators — Brian Johnson and Sean Desai — it could have gone worse.

Still, the offense needs to be both a bit more efficient and explosive than it was against the Patriots’ defense. And what better time to do it than against a Vikings defense that is still gelling under the watch of new defensive coordinator Brian Flores?

Indeed, it’s easy to understand why the Eagles are favored in this one. Still, don’t be surprised to see the Vikings give them a better fight than most are anticipating.

Here’s what to know about the “Thursday Night Football” game in NFL Week 2, including what channel it is on and what time it will begin.

What channel is Vikings vs. Eagles on today?

  • Game: Vikings at Eagles
  • Date: Sept. 14, 2023
  • TV channel (Minnesota): KMSP (Channel 9)
  • TV channel (Philadelphia): WTFX (Channel 29)
  • Live stream: Amazon Prime Video | DAZN (in Canada)

Amazon Prime will once again be the home of “Thursday Night Football” in 2023. That means anyone hoping to watch the game nationally will need a subscription to Amazon Prime to access the game.

That said, the NFL is making sure that those in the local-area markets without subscriptions can still watch each contest. Those in the Minnesota TV market will be able to watch the game on Fox affiliate KMSP, while those in the Philadelphia area can catch it on WTFX, another Fox affiliate.

Amazon spared no expense in building its broadcast team for its first season, and both the studio crew and broadcast team were generally well-received. Legendary play-by-play man Al Michaels paired well with game analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who is better known for broadcasting college football, and sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung, so they are back again in 2023.

Viewers in Canada will not have to have Amazon Prime to access “Thursday Night Football” in 2023. They will be able to watch the games on DAZN.

Vikings vs. Eagles start time

  • Date: Thursday, Sept. 14
  • Time: 8:15 p.m. ET (7:15 p.m. CT)

Amazon’s pregame coverage of the matchup will begin at 7 p.m. ET with the streamer’s studio show. Charissa Thompson returns as the host of that program while former players Tony Gonzalez, Richard Sherman, Andrew Whitworth and Ryan Fitzpatrick will provide analysis alongside her.

NFL live stream for Vikings vs. Eagles

  • Live stream: Amazon Prime

If you want to watch “Thursday Night Football” in 2023, you are going to need a subscription to Amazon Prime. The streaming service will be the exclusive streaming home of the program for the next decade, and the games will only be broadcast on over-the-air TV in the participating teams’ local markets.

NFL schedule Week 2

The Vikings vs. Eagles game will kick off NFL Week 2 in a rematch of a “Monday Night Football” battle that the two teams had last year. Philadelphia crushed Minnesota in that game 24-7, so Kirk Cousins and Co. should be out for revenge.

While that game starts the week, three prime-time clashes will end it. The Patriots will host the Dolphins on “Sunday Night Football” as Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones duel in a clash of Alabama quarterbacks. Bill Belichick’s strong defense will have to find a way to slow down Tyreek Hill and Mike McDaniel’s offense after Miami’s 36-point outburst against the Chargers.

“Monday Night Football” in Week 2 will feature one of three doubleheaders for the program during the 2023 season. The Panthers will host the Saints in the first matchup, as Bryce Young hunts for his first win as an NFL starter, while the Steelers will host the Browns as they look to come off an embarrassing loss to the 49ers.

Other games of note on Sunday include a matchup between Lamar Jackson’s Ravens and Joe Burrow’s Bengals, a Chiefs vs. Jaguars playoff rematch and a battle between the Super Bowl hopeful Cowboys and the Aaron Rodgers-less Jets.

Below is the full schedule for Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season.
