When is next Premier League season? Start date, fixture release, TV channels, streaming announcement for 2024/25

By | June 17, 2024

Fans will not have long to wait for the return of Premier League football after the Copa America and Euro 2024 tournaments conclude this summer.

England’s top flight returns for a new season in August 2024 and will run until the following May. The campaign will comprise 33 weekends, four midweek rounds of matches, and one matchweek over a public holiday — and the festive season will remain pretty busy, as per tradition.

The fixture schedule will be released soon, meaning teams will be able to turn their attention towards planning for next season, even as their celebrations (or commiserations) at the end of 2023/24 are carried out.

It will also allow fans to look ahead to next season even as they enjoy the summer’s international tournaments in Germany and the United States.

The Sporting News has the key dates for the 2024/25 Premier League season below, in addition to details around a slightly altered mid-season period, which comes about due to the later opening weekend.

Is there a Premier League winter break in 2024/25?

There is no mid-season break in the 2024/25 Premier League season. That’s because the start of the campaign has been pushed back to mid-August to allow players sufficient rest following the Copa America and Euro 2024.

“This longer summer break allows all Premier League clubs to be better able to ensure that players get a consecutive three-week break in the summer,” the league said. “This takes into account expert advice from medical and technical departments, which values a longer period of complete rest in the summer rather than a short break in the winter.”

However, organisers have taken steps to ease fixture congestion over the typically busy Christmas and New Year period: no team will play within 60 hours of their previous or next game.

There will also be no match held on December 24, unlike last year, when Wolves hosted Chelsea.
