The 2022 NCAA Tournament features plenty of well-known, blue-blood programs with which even casual basketball fans will be familiar. From Duke to Gonzaga to Kentucky to Indiana, there are always plenty of historic programs in March Madness.
That said, the lower-seeded teams and mid-major tournament winners aren’t always as well-known even to die-hard college basketball fans. There are always new teams to learn about, and the ones on the 16-seed lines are often the most unfamiliar of the bunch.
Take Wright State, for instance. They got a bit more air time than usual because they were involved in the First Four for 2022. They knocked off Bryant University to earn their first NCAA Tournament win ever and now will look to pull off an unthinkable upset over Arizona.
Fans of the sport probably have some questions about Wright State. Where is it located? What league do they play in? How good are they? Here’s everything to know about the school as they look to earn the second 16-over-1-seed upset in NCAA Tournament history.

Colgate 2021-22 season rundown
- 2021-22 record: 23-11 (16-2 Patriot play)
- NET ranking: 128
- KenPom ranking: 119
Colgate started the season slowly, as they came out of the gate going 4-10 in their first 14 games. They played plenty of tough competition, including Power 5 teams like NC State, Syracuse and Pitt while also facing the likes of Cornell, Harvard, St. John’s and Vermont.
However, after losing its first game in Patriot league play to Lehigh, Colgate was nearly unbeatable. It went 19-1 over their final 20 games of the season and won 15 in a row to cruise into the NCAA Tournament. The Raiders were the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League tournament and cruised to victory in each of their three games, winning by an average of 22 points per game.
Colgate relied on a balanced offensive attack to get to the March Madness tournament. They have five players that average at least 10 points per game and shoot 40.3 percent from 3-point range, which ranks second-best in the NCAA. Nelly Cummings leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game.
