Where is ‘College GameDay’ this week? Location, schedule, guest picker for conference championship weekend

By | December 1, 2023

Every year, the SEC championship is one of the biggest games of the season. This one can make or break a team’s playoff hopes.

And it doesn’t get much better than Georgia vs. Alabama, as the rivals prepare to meet in Atlanta for the fourth time since 2012. The Tide won each of those games (2012, 2018, 2021) with two victories coming by a one-score margin.

The Dawgs got the last laugh, though. They had a rematch with Alabama in the 2022 national championship after losing the SEC title game 41-24. In Indianapolis, Kirby Smart’s squad defeated Nick Saban’s 33-18 for Georgia’s first national title since 1980. The Bulldogs then claimed last year’s SEC title with a defeat of LSU en route to a second consecutive national championship.

A win or loss in this year’s SEC showdown does not necessarily determine a team’s destiny in the College Football Playoff. A Georgia win will keep it undefeated, guaranteeing a top-two seed, but an Alabama win changes everything. The Tide have an uphill battle to the CFP and will need a lot of luck, but it begins by bringing down the Dawgs in Atlanta. Even if they avenge their 2022 championship loss and bring down Georgia in the first matchup since, it does not guarantee that the Dawgs are out of the CFP race.
