Two of the top programs in college baseball will meet in a pivotal SEC series when No. 7 Vanderbilt hosts No. 18 LSU in a three-game set, which begins on Thursday.
The Commodores (23-6) have won four consecutive games after suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of No. 22 South Carolina earlier in conference play. Though Vanderbilt is starting to turn things around, there is still room for improvement.
In sweeping Missouri last weekend, the Commodores scored just 10 runs across the three-game series. RJ Austin leads the team with a .351 batting average, while Matthew Polk leads the team with a .595 slugging percentage.
The Tigers (20-10) are heading the wrong way, having lost four consecutive games. After being swept over the weekend by No. 1 Arkansas, LSU came out flat on Monday in a 12-7 loss to Southern.
Luke Holman remains a bright spot, as the Alabama transfer has a 1.39 ERA in 39 innings to begin his LSU career. Offensively, Tommy White is beginning to round into form, with a team-best .328 batting average and nine home runs, the second-most on the team.
