For the second consecutive season, Manchester United are heading north to Scotland for an exciting preseason game.
Manchester United are set to face Rangers on Saturday, July 20 at Murrayfield Stadium, normally home to Scotland’s Rugby Union National Team. It’s the first time these two teams have faced off since 2010, when they were paired together in the same UEFA Champions League group.
United are coming off a 1-0 loss to Rosenborg in Norway earlier this week in the Red Devils’ first action of the preseason. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Marcus Rashford all started the match and played the first 45 minutes, while reserve and academy players made up the numbers.
Rangers, with an earlier start to their league season, is already well into preseason training. The club beat Hamilton Academical 5-2 at home before a scoreless draw with Standard Liege and a 2-1 defeat to Ajax during the club’s training camp in the Netherlands.
The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this preseason match between Manchester United and Rangers.

Manchester United vs. Rangers lineups & team news
Man United’s stars who didn’t take part in summer tournaments got some action in their first preseason game, and should feature on Saturday against Rangers as well. That includes Marcus Rashford, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Mount, and Casemiro. We could also potentially see Harry Maguire, who is rehabbing a calf injury, along with Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Jadon Sancho, Andre Onana, Antony, and Jonny Evans.
We should expect to see starters featuring for 45 to 60 minutes as the team builds fitness for the upcoming season.
It is probably too soon for new signings Joshua Zirkzee, and Leny Yoro, though they could feature on the club’s upcoming tour of the U.S.

Rangers’ league season begins on August 3 against Hearts back in Edinburgh, so this will be an important preseason test for manager Philippe Clement’s side. Led by captain James Tavernier, with former Premier Leaguers Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence up top, Rangers are looking to overcome Celtic this year and become league champions.
This summer is all about integrating some young new stars, including Colombian Oscar Cortes, Brazilian defender Jefte, Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane, and French defender Clinton Nsiala.
Players could be given a longer leash, and be substituted after 65 minutes or longer.
Man United vs Rangers prediction
- Score prediction: Manchester United 1-1 Rangers
With it being preseason, it’s hard to know what kind of lineup coach Erik ten Hag will use and whether Man United’s big-name players will be able to overpower Rangers this early in preseason.
It should be an exciting match for Man United fans north of the border and a fun atmosphere created by Glasgow Rangers fans in Edinburgh.
