Who is Christopher Eubanks? Age, height, ranking and more to know about American making waves at Wimbledon

By | July 12, 2023

An American man hasn’t won Wimbledon since Pete Sampras in 2000. And frankly, the legend’s countrymen haven’t been particularly close in the ensuing decades; save a trio of Andy Roddick finals appearances in 2004, 2005 and 2009, U.S. men have tended to struggle in the tournament.

Maybe it’s the grass. Or perhaps the pressure. Either way, Wimbledon’s lush green carpet has, more often than not, chewed American men up and spit them out whole.

That may very well happen again this year. There’s just one U.S. man left in the field as we enter the quarterfinals, and he may require an introduction. His name is Christopher Eubanks.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest American hoping to showcase his stuff on tennis’ biggest stage:

Who is Christopher Eubanks?

An Atlanta native and former college star at Georgia Tech, Christopher Eubanks lanky, athletic and possesses a forehand blessed by the gods. He’s also one of just two unranked players remaining in the eight-man group.

Eubanks has taken down two seeded players to get to this point, outlasting 12th-seeded Cameron Norrie in four sets in the second round and stunning fifth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas in a five-set thriller to reach the quarters.

He faces an uphill climb to capture the U.S. men’s first Wimbledon title in 23 years. But with the way he’s playing, you never know what could happen.

Christopher Eubanks age

At 27 years old, Eubanks is a late bloomer by tennis standards but firmly in the prime of his career. The Atlanta native has been a fixture on the ATP Tour since officially going pro in 2017, though he made his debut in 2015 while still in college.

He has but one career singles title to his name. But with three wins against players who have ranked in the ATP Top 10 at one point in their career, Eubanks is certainly no slouch, either.

Christopher Eubanks height

Eubanks has a spindly frame that would fit perfectly amongst the treetops of the NBA. He’s 6-foot-7, standing as one of the tallest players on the tour.

Eubanks’ length makes a big difference. He can look a little awkward sliding from one side of the court to the other, especially when compared to smaller, more agile players like Carlos Alcaraz or Frances Tiafoe. But he can also get to balls seemingly out of his radius, extending his branch-like arms as he fires back a venomous return volley.

He’s shorter than giants like John Isner, Reilly Opelka and Ivo Karlovic. However, unlike some of his contemporaries, Eubanks isn’t much of a dunker. “Which is sad,” Opelka once claimed.

“He claims he’s good at basketball,” Coco Gauff said on the Beyond the Baseline podcast. “We’re going to see. He has the height, but I’m pretty sure he can’t dunk even though he’s 6-foot-7.”
