Who is Post Malone?
Austin Richard Post, as the rapper is named, was born July 4, 1995. He spent the first nine years of his life in Syracuse, New York, before moving to Grapevine, Texas, with his family. As a result, he grew up a Cowboys fan.
The singer-songwriter became interested in music because of his father. He was a DJ in his youth and introduced his son to many different types of music. By age 15, Post Malone had his stage name. He picked it using his last name and a “rap name generator” for “Malone.”
He created a mix, Young and After Them Riches, and a song, “Why Don’t You Love Me,” while in high school. He used the alias Leon DeChino when he released that song.
Post Malone moved to Los Angeles after dropping out of college. In 2015, his career really kickstarted with his debut single “White Iverson.” A few months later, he signed a contract with Republic Records.
His debut album, Stoney, was released in December 2016 after months of delays. The record featured a handful of hits, including “Congratulations” (featuring Quavo). The single was Post Malone’s first top-ten song on the Billboard Hot 100.
While he’s yet to win a Grammy, Malone has been nominated 10 times. He does, however, have numerous other musical awards, including ten Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.
Malone is one of the best-selling artists in music, with over 80 million records sold.

Malone released Hollywood’s Bleeding a year later. The tracklist includes “Sunflower” (with Swae Lee), which was produced as an accompanying soundtrack to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It became the highest-certified song in RIAA history, garnering 17 platinum certifications.
“Circles” became one of Malone’s most successful singles. It was his fourth song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it spent 61 weeks on the chart.
He took a three-year hiatus before releasing Twelve Carat Toothache. His most recent record, Austin, came out in 2023.

He joined Noah Kahan for a re-release of the folk singer’s “Dial Drunk” in July of 2023. The single peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.
