The Los Angeles Dodgers can punch their ticket to the World Series if they can win Game 5 of the 2024 NLCS. Teams find inspiration in wild places, and the New York Mets aren’t going to go down without a fight.
To get the action started ahead of first pitch on Friday, October 18, the Mets welcomed The Temptations to Citi Field. While the legendary Motown group has more of a tie to Detroit, Michigan in their origin than they do New York, it wasn’t surprising seeing the group involved in pre-game festivities.
Here’s why The Temptations were at Citi Field ahead of Game 5 of the 2024 NLCS.

Why are The Temptations at Game 5 of the 2024 NLCS?
The Temptations were invited to sing the national anthem ahead of the game. Right after the national anthem, the music group performed one of their hit songs “My Girl.” This song has a special place in the hearts of Mets fans as they have made this postseason push.
One of New York’s star players has utilized the iconic song as his walk-up song, despite it not being a traditionally “hype” song.

Francisco Lindor’s Walk-Up Song
Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor walks to the plate with “My Girl” by The Temptations blasting over the speaker system at Citi Field.
By the time Lindor gets to the plate, the song is getting to the chorus. It is often cut off as he gets into the batters box, but the crowd picks up where the song leaves off, finishing the iconic chorus during Lindor’s at-bat.
