Goodbye Braves Big Hat, we hardly knew ye.
Less than a month into the MLB season, one of MLB’s several home run celebrations has already gone the way of the dinosaur, because it messed with the money.
While some might have thought the Orioles’ dong bong would be the first to get the axe due to the requisite pearl clutching a giant beer bong might entail, MLB not having an official partner with beer bongs has saved it for now.

The Braves’ giant hat had no such luck, as New Era has apparently reached out to the organization and asked it to please stop promoting other caps. New Era is, of course, the on-field partner of MLB when it comes to their caps.
The owner of More Than Sports, the company that provided the hat, tweeted the news Tuesday night.
The Atlanta Braves big hat is no longer. New Era has called and shut it down. They are the exclusive on field hat for Major League Baseball.. #bighat #rip

According to WSB-TV, the Braves confirmed to Alison Mastrangelo that the players can no longer wear the Big Hat down on the field.

Why can the Braves no longer wear a Big Hat?
Because New Era doesn’t make Big Hats, it took issue with the Braves wearing them on the field.
Look around an MLB stadium, and you’ll see all sorts of signage about New Era being the official on-field cap of MLB. New Era doesn’t want that status infringed upon.
So, even though the abnormally-sized headwear is a gimmick, it’s messing with the money in a way that the Angels’ samurai helmet, the Mariners’ trident, and the Reds’ Viking helmet aren’t.
Therefore, the Big Hat is gone. But the Braves may have something new soon.
