Why Bills vs. Chiefs has division-like feel for Josh Allen

By | October 29, 2025

The Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs will do battle in Week 9, with Josh Allen looking to continue his impressive regular-season winning streak over the Chiefs, which currently stands at four.

Being at home, the Bills will be in a confident mood that they can put away one of their biggest rivals and continue their march toward the postseason.

But in an unusual stat, since 2020, the Bills have played the Chiefs nine times (including playoffs), which is a high number for a team not in your division.

And for Allen, his clashes with the Chiefs are beginning to feel a lot like a division game.

“I think we’ve played them damn near every year since I’ve gotten here,” Allen said. “So yeah, I guess you can look at it from a perspective of we understand what they try to do to us. But there’s jabs, counters, different things that you can do throughout seeing each other throughout the years of making things look the same but being completely different.

“So again, with division games, you go into it like, hey, let’s listen to our base rules. Let’s not try to chase anything. Then just play it with your eyes and be reactive as possible.”

Bills and Chiefs very much a division game

This Week 9 matchup will be the 10th time since 2020 that the Bills have faced off against Kansas City, and there is no doubt that each team will feel like they know the other inside out.

With the Bills having bragging rights in the regular season, but the Chiefs being 4-0 in the postseason against Allen, there is no doubt a desire to keep the regular-season dominance going.

Buffalo isn’t exactly firing on all cylinders right now, yet the Chiefs are, and as is the case with division games, form lines often go out the window. Expect this to be yet another one-possession game at Highmark Stadium.

The Bills and Chiefs like division rivals? Based on history, they might as well be.
