The New York Yankees have had an active winter so far, but there are still plenty of moves to be made.
So far, the Yankees have addressed the lineup, starting rotation, and bullpen in meaningful ways, which is a solid way to make up for the impactful loss of star outfielder Juan Soto. Max Fried, Devin Williams, and Cody Bellinger are all two-time All-Stars and should make great Yankees.
As New York looks to continue improving the roster, there are some noteworthy reunions to consider.
One such possible reunion would be with right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle, who has long been a staple of the New York bullpen. Kahnle owns a 3.31 ERA in parts of six seasons in the Bronx, and he’s become a fan-favorite for his consistency and signature devastating changeup.
Recently, Drew VonScio of Newsweek predicted that the Yankees would bring back Kahnle, who just wrapped up a two-year, $11.5 million contract and is still open for business this winter.
“It makes a lot of sense for the Yankees to bring back Tommy Kahnle. He’s 35 years old, but he certainly didn’t pitch like it last season with his 2.11 ERA,” VonScio said.
“The Yankees are always looking for bullpen help, and Kahnle is very familiar with the Bronx. Bringing him back, even for lower-leverage situations, would help solidify and round out the bullpen.”
Some players were made to wear the Yankee pinstripes, and Kahnle appears to be one of them. He’s thrown 195 innings for New York in six total seasons, spanning two separate stints with a two-year gap in between. 2024 may have been his best season, with a 2.11 ERA in 50 outings.
If Kahnle could help get some big outs in front of Williams and Luke Weaver in 2025, the Yankees would likely once again have one of baseball’s very best bullpens.
