Yankees vs. Guardians weather update: Rain in forecast postpones ALDS Game 2 in Bronx

By | October 13, 2022

October weather rarely if ever cooperates with the MLB postseason, and that’s once again shaping up to be the case in 2022.

After a lengthy rain delay held up Game 2 of the NLDS in Atlanta for nearly three hours Wednesday, Game 2 of the Yankees vs. Guardians ALDS has been postponed from Thursday evening to Friday afternoon with a first pitch of 1:07 ET.

The game at Yankee Stadium was called off more than seven hours ahead of the scheduled first pitch due to the “forecast of sustained inclement weather” in the Bronx.

The change itself is an easy one to make — it will simply make Friday a three-game day for MLB with both NLDS series being played — but the challenge will fall upon Aaron Boone and Terry Francona.

Because of the delay, there will now be four games in four days for the ALDS, with Friday originally slated to be an off day.

The Yankees took Game 1 of the series 4-1 behind a strong pitching performance from Gerrit Cole and home runs from Anthony Rizzo and Harrison Bader.

For Game 2, the Guardians will likely have Shane Bieber going on six days of rest while the Yankees throw Nestor Cortes in his first postseason start.

Yankees vs. Guardians weather forecast

While thunderstorms are predicted for Thursday night around when first pitch would have been, at 7:37 p.m., Friday has just an 8 percent chance of rain during the day and a high of 68 degrees with some clouds.
